    586 lug cut down

Thanks for all the comments folks. I haven't been on the forum for a few weeks, sorry. Larry, it is still a 4" barrel. Only the underlug was cut down, not the barrel itself. Oh, and James, thanks for the knife comment. That Case 6232 from 1978 is just about the perfect pocket knife (in my...

    586 lug cut down

I was looking back over this old thread tonight, and discovered I had deleted all those pictures from my photobucket account. So, here are a couple I took that I still have uploaded.

    686 or 586 ??????

I would keep the 586 since you already have SS covered with the 66 models. Of course, I am biased toward blued revolvers, even though I have the 686-4 on my hip today. My 586 is just to pretty to be a carry gun.

    686 picture thread

Hard to get decent pictures of a stainless gun on a sunny day with just a BlackBerry, so I'm sorry for the picture quality. Here is my 686-4 with Ahrends cocobolo retro banana grips.

Opinions: Swap Ruger Security Six for S&W L frame?

Like you, I don't much care for the look and feel of a full lug revolver. That is why I picked up a 4" 586 on which the previous owner had cut down the lug. I do have a regular 4" 686, but the modified 586 just feels better to me. Here is a picture of my two L frames, though I have since...

That may be the best line in this thread!

    show me your scooter

Sweet rides everyone! I had to sell mine a few years back when we had two cars go down at the same time. I am itching for another, and so is my son (for his first). I hope we can get them and ride together.

    The last REAL Winchester '94?

Lovely gun, John! The wood on that thing is beautiful! I have a similar vintage Marlin, a 1894c in .357 from 1980 which is pure delight to shoot. Neither my gun nor photo are as pretty as yours.

    Man's Best Friend . . . show me yours!

Kudos to your daughter's ex-boyfriend FTG-05 for the daring raid, and to you for rescuing such a sweet girl. That second picture is priceless, and nearly melted my heart! We are in the process of deciding on our next one as our previous dog (photo posted earlier) was tragically killed September...

    Smith & “Friend” picture thread

This one may not be quite in the spirit of the thread since they are both S&Ws, but the 686 is a friend of the S&W 586, and the 586 is a friend of the S&W 686:

Great photo, Bill! I wish I had your skill. I have posted this before, just a quick shot with my BlackBerry. Here are two of my .357s (the other is a 1997 686-4), a 1995 Ruger SP101 and a 1985 S&W 586:

    Who has one of these

I would love to have one! Like Maximumbob54 I don't understand why this isn't an option for the standard 686. My 586 is the one mentioned by Engine49guy. I even contacted S&W to inquire about the availability of 4" MG barrels for my 686-4. No such luck. So, I guess I keep one L frame with a...

    Me and mom

I cannot emphasize too much what great advice this is. My dad's mom will be 92 next month, and is slowing down. Even though she married into my namesake family, she knows more about it than anyone who was born into it. Fortunately, she has kept very good records. But just talking with someone...

    great experience with haris1

haris1 recently bought a set of K/L frame Ajax grips from me, and I have to say what a great guy he is. He made a reasonable offer, but prefaced it by saying he hoped it was not an insult, then gave me a bit over our agreed on price to cover paypal fees. A true gentleman!
