Thanks for the assessment! It was $750 which is probably not what would be considered "cheap" but definitely less than I'd expect an original barrel gun to go for! I'm fine with it either way but this saves me the expense of getting it lettered to find out for sure so it's appreciated!
I don't...
Not sure if you saw the album I posted? S&W Pre-Model 27 - Album on Imgur you're definitely right that the barrel rib is angled at the front of the gun though and I believe you may be right about the crown being flat as well. Those are all my pics btw I have the gun here in my safe.
Recently won this 1954-55 (based on the serial) produced Pre-Model 27 on Gunbroker which received no bids from anyone besides me, probably because the front sight has been shaved down (possibly to match a specific load or to increase visibility?) plus it came with replacement smooth target-sized...
That's what I thought at first but its a Q not a G lol - it could be a simple typographic error tho since the last S in LEWIS is backwards, so who knows whats going on exactly!
Hi all! Recently picked up my first ever Victory model and I had a few questions, along with the standard query on generally when it might have been made? It is SN # V123572:
Standard 4" bbl in 38 special but it lacks the US Property or GHD etc stamps on the top strap, which is entirely bare...
I used to own #43067
which was rollmarked
Just recently picked up #71989
which is also rollmarked
edit: not sure if this is the right place to ask this, but would anyone be able to tell me what the meaning of this stamp is?

Hi! I posted this issue in the pre 1962 revolver forum but it was suggested I look here for help as well.
I recently picked up a well worn/used 1960 mfg Model 19 which has the following issue: On two of the six chambers (consecutive) cocking the hammer is very difficult, as though some...
One other symptom I've just noticed - it's difficult to lock the cylinder into place in the last bit of travel. It's also very difficult to unlock the cylinder on certain chambers.
OK so after posting I pulled the cylinder from the gun and gave it a thorough cleaning and oiling with special attention to the area under the extractor star like you mentioned. Now the cylinder turns easily on all except two chambers. I can see light between the cylinder and the barrel nub on...
I recently picked up 3x S&W revolvers in a package deal which included a Model 19 no dash which appears to be made in 1960 based on the serial. It was very cheap because something is going on inside - maybe the cylinder barrel is bent or something but the cylinder will barely turn in the gun...
In case anyone remembers this old thread, I did eventually have an antique dime cut to make a front sight for this old revolver:
Found one from 1890 on ebay for like $12 and a machinist friend was kind enough to do the work for me since a project like this is at least ten orders of magnitude...
If anyone is interested I went ahead and had this gun lettered by Roy Jinks, he was nice enough to look up the mismatched barrel's serial as well and confirm both numbers were shipped to Japan via Takata & Co. The frame at least went over in 1890.
Well I'm never absolutely sure of anything in this life but I have shot it, two rounds total now without issue. Loading up a whole cylinder and trusting it to time properly on its own is another matter, possibly bearing further investigation by another gunsmith.
