    Remington Sm. Pistol Primers 1 1/2 & 5 1/2 Inquiry

Ladies and Gents, A couple of eons ago, during the Great Primer Shortage of 2009 or thereabouts, I was unable to buy my usual primer of choice, Winchester Small Pistol, but I was able to get Remington Small Pistol #1 1/2. They seemed to work fine. Then, a while ago, and after the Shortage...

    Best measure for bullseye powder?

This is a bit OT, but ... I have been loading DEWCs in .38 spl with 2.8 gr. of Bullseye for several years with my Dillon 550. I used to check every 10 rounds or so. I found that the Dillon loaded with such boring consistency that I now just make random checks, and I am pleased to continue with...

How much does powder and primers cost around the country?

Here in the People's Republic of Eugene, at Bi-Mart, Remington 1-1/2s & 5-1/2s are going for $3.49/100, available max 400. No Winchesters, no CCI, which is what Bi-Mart usually stocks. Last powder I bought was 1 lb. of Unique. I think I paid $20.

Does anyone have experience with Ramshot powders?

Folks, Due to the relative scarcity of my usual powders, Bullseye, Unique, and 2400 in my locale, a local shop recommended switching to Ramshot powders, which it had plenty of. If I'm not mistaken, the dealer said Ramshot was used in Buffalo Bore bullets. I load only for .38 spl (148 gr...

    Remington 1 1/2 vs. 5 1/2 Small Pistol Primers

... hmmm ... jwh32, Now, that is interesting! Confirms my use of CCI 400s for magnum loads. (I generally stick with 2400; old fashioned, I guess.) Paul5388: Would a change in the handloads.com primer comparison chart be in order? Just asking. Best, Mike

    Remington 1 1/2 vs. 5 1/2 Small Pistol Primers

... knew I shoulda looked ... Thanks, gents! Tho I've used handloads.com for lots of other stuff, it completely skipped my mind when this question came up. Remington's packaging is a bit of a mystery. If they would just label 5 1/2s as small pistol magnums it would save us from reading the...

    Remington 1 1/2 vs. 5 1/2 Small Pistol Primers

Folks, I actually was able to buy some primers today. (I was able to buy only 400.) Available were Remington 1 1/2 and 5 1/2 small pistol primers. I've only used Winchester, CCI, and Federal primers. I gather from other forums that 1 1/2s are small pistol and 5 1/2s are small pistol magnum...

    New Model 520

Well, there's a new one on Gunbroker on which the bid is at $601 ("reserve not met"), so I guess it's up to you. My 520 cylinder definitely has residue on the exposed titanium, and, so far as I can remember, it's been there since I first fired it. If the cylinder is really clean, chances are it...

Model 10-6 Inquiry: Tapered Barrel Too?

Well, duh, Mike! Aging eyes. I called the shop. Had someone younger look at the frame. It's a 10-5. SN# D28549X. Thanks, s&wchad! No wonder I have trouble hitting the target some days! Mike

Model 10-6 Inquiry: Tapered Barrel Too?

Folks, Diamondback 68 states in: 10-5 Period of Production "The 10-5 was made from 1962 until 1977 when the 10-7 came out. The 10-6 was a for heavy barrel 10s only." Well, this is what I thought, too, but I was just at the local gun shop and inspected a 6" pencil barrel on a frame marked...

    New Model 520

I can't answer your questions directly. I bought my 520 Ti new in September 2007 for $635, if my memory serves me correctly. They show up on Gunbroker occasionally, but I can't remember any recent selling prices. So far as I know, it isn't a custom gun, but it was one of limited production...

    Model 37 Inquiry

Thanks, folks, for all your interesting and informative (and humorous!) comments. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to get the worthy spouse out to the range again to shoot an airweight, so I'm no farther along than I was earlier. Also, thanks, Clemmons, for bringing to my attention the 37...

    Model 37 Inquiry

Folks, Last Friday I finally got my wife, who is not all that hot to trot on this gun business, out to the range where our Rotary club was having a social "gun safety class" and "paper killing" exercise. She declared that if she was going to shoot, she might as well try something that would...

Best deal on lead RN or FMJ bullets?

The last time I bought from Xtreme (November 2008), shipping was included. I've used Xtreme's 158 gr plated SWC in fairly stout (14.4 gr 2400) .357 magnums with success. Seems to me Xtreme's prices are better than Rainier's, and Ranier charges shipping.
