Folks,

Diamondback 68 states in: 10-5 Period of Production

"The 10-5 was made from 1962 until 1977 when the 10-7 came out. The 10-6 was a for heavy barrel 10s only."

Well, this is what I thought, too, but I was just at the local gun shop and inspected a 6" pencil barrel on a frame marked 10-6.

SCSW #3 states (at p. 174): "10-6 (1962): Trigger guard screw elliminated on heavy barrel model."

Is this a modified gun? Or, is it one of the many guns in which an assembler grabbed a frame and then reached into the barrel box, grabbed the closest barrel, which happened to be a pencil barrel, and put them together, resulting in another one of S&W's surprises?

At least one inquiring mind wants to know.

Thanks in advance.

Several other possibilities. It might have been a Model 10-5 incorrectly stamped 10-6 or you may have misread the markings.

The front of the top strap is different on standard and heavy barrel guns where it drops down to meet the barrel, that’s why they had to distinguish between the two.

Well, duh, Mike!

Aging eyes. I called the shop. Had someone younger look at the frame. It's a 10-5. SN# D28549X.

Thanks, s&wchad!

No wonder I have trouble hitting the target some days!

Mike
