Found a S&W model 10-5 pencil barrel. Excellent bluing. Grip checkering is excellent. Slight turn ring on the cylinder. What dates was the 10-5 produced? Asking $560.

$560 is probably not out of line for what you describe, even though it sounds high to me. I guess the days when you could get one for 2 or 3 hundred are gone.

It's an old story: if you have the time to hunt for an extended period, you can probably find a similar one for less. If you don't want to invest the time and effort, then buy that one.

Pic would help but unless it is exceptionally nice the "asking" price is about $100 too high in my opinion. Look at it as a place to start negotiating.

I picked up an unfired 10-5 this morning at a local gun show for $550. The original magna stocks have been replaced with target stocks. I feel like I got it at a great price for the condition of the gun.

Bought this 10-5 snub last year for under $300. Deals are out there.

Just before the Covid panic, I paid $305 OTD for a perfect 10-5 6" (No box, papers, or tools). I feel that is the last of my "Deals from the olden days".

BTW, best shooting S&W I've had out of around 60!!

Best deal I have got on a M10-5 was on, believe it or not, Gunbroker. $405 plus $25 dollars shipping. Little over three years ago. This M10-5 was made in1976-77 and was in very good condition. Wrong stocks, but after a refinish they look great on it.
Shown with its great, great grandfather a 1915 M&P.

My nickel 1979 10-7 4” that I bought for $300 at a regional gun show eight years ago. Seller had $400 on it but took $300 cash. I carried one like it as a LEO in the 1970s. (Prior to the department replacing all nickel 5” I carried one of those also.) I would have paid more as I had been looking for a nice 1970s nickel Model 10 4” for several years. Per SCSW 4th nickel is worth premium on Model 10.

In 1990, the year I retired as a LEO, I swore I would never pay over $100 for any used gun! That was nor un-realistic at the time. How things change.:(

$100 in 1990 was the equivalent of about $250 today. I don't remember buying too many guns for $100 in my youth. ;)

I paid $399 for a good shooter grade with holster wear 1956 M&P. My 64-5 was $449.
Pawnshop had a 64-3 for only $749. Cabela's had a 10-2 that looked like it had been recovered from the Titanic for $649. It had more rust than my buddies 74 C-10 Chevy. In my area $560 isn't great but not a rip-off. Both guns I mentioned sold fairly quick too. SMH on that
