    A True 1891 SS Target 1st Model?

I find that Single Shots typically sell for $700 plus in any working condition. There is one non-working parts gun that sold for $355 recently on GB. That SS had been refinished at some point and the front sight is not original, but appears clean and not abused. Guess at a minimum value of...

    A True 1891 SS Target 1st Model?

The 1st & 2nd Models only came with hard rubber extension stocks. I have a few original sets that look like those in my combo set with little wear that would be perfect for your pistol. I will send you a DM soon.

    MOP grips

I think they were already polished and the very thin gold wash is gone forever. You are looking now at tarnished brass. Gold never tarnishes. I did a piece on hard rubber stocks at one time and you can check your measurements to see what frame size they fit.

    Over 45% off…

I have only seen two target 1st Models and neither were for sale, but certainly is something that is seldom seen. I was once told by a long-time gun collector that a truly valuable rare item entails two things, seldom seen and demand higher than supply. Rare itself refers to something that is...

    Over 45% off…

Very Nice revolver, but I am thinking about this and believe it was not worth what some guy foolishly bid in March. It may be likely he decided to take the rath of the auction house rather than pay that much for the gun??? The factory did make 20,000 of these, plus I assume it did not sell to...

    A True 1891 SS Target 1st Model?

The Model 1891 Single Shot pistol had a recoil shield, yours does not. It also has a different top of barrel address including "MODEL OF '91". The factory removed the recoil shields on all 2nd Model SS pistols. The Model '91 frame was from their 3rd Model 38 revolver and some were made into...

Need help on production date and caliber

Welcome to the Forum. Serial numbers near yours shipped in 1890 so it is an antique as defined by the BATF. It appears to have been heavily used and cold blued with non-factory pearl stocks added. The caliber is 38 S&W made from time to time by Remington, Winchester, etc.

    Somewhat late

Poor storage could have been the problem with the finish or holstered for a long time, since the case hardened ejector rod knob is bright and the case colors on the hammer and trigger are not worn. I bet the bore and chambers are perfect? I would state that the gun went back to the factory for...

    .32 DA finish spotting

Take some pictures and post, since determining what you are seeing and why the finish has dark spots is the first part of the answer.

    Non-relieved K Targets

In my mind, the 5 rivet hole box was introduced to be used with N frame revolvers - 38/44 Outdoorsman and 357 Magnums. It was a riveted picture box made from 1933 to 1941. Also, the 4 rivet hole boxes were made for the K frame Outdoorsman and K22 Masterpiece in the same era. The riveted gold...

38 Special & 12 Gauge, a beautiful couple from the roaring thirties, publish your breathtaking combinations

Can't Resist posting. . . it is unknown whether any US Army S&W Model 1899s got to the Philippines War from 1899 to 1902, but certainly served in the same era, along with my nice Model 1898 30-40 Krag rifle and all the accoutrements.

    FBI Quick Draw Clock

Bob Mundon held the world record fast draw for many years until his record was challenged as not being authenticated. I really don't care since his videos show a remarkable fast draw of 0.2 second as noted but who is counting at that speed!! Oh, I forgot to mention he is a very modest guy.;)

    32 WCF Revolver

I have seen many 32-20 guns shipped way out of order after 1920 that I don't normally guess at a ship date. I have a target 32 WCF that shipped in August 1924 with serial number 110915. The sales of this model was very slow in the 1920s and the factory officially ended manufacture around 1931...
