Na there stiched like that on both sides because the liner suede is sewn to the outer leather but the bottoms still open. But they do look closed from the side.

Ok i know this is an old thread but i have a 686 i thought was 6" when i bought it and have had a hard time getting a holster that fit. I called s&w and they said my 686-5 plus is a 7". He couldn't give me anymore info other than its from 1999. I don't really see any mention anywhere about a 7"...

I guess I didn't realized they made the 686 in a 7" barrel model. Because thats why i couldn't figure out why my gun didn't fit in any 6" holsters. Doh.

Well i called smith and wesson today and they looked up my serial #. I have a 7" 686 plus not a 6". I guess i never realized there was a 7".

So 6.25 is normal

What's the actual length of a 6" 686+ barrel supposed to be?

The second holster is molded for the under lug but the lenght is the same either way.

I sent them an email and they said they would send me another one free but what's the point if it's to short

Well I received my second holster today. I got the one for the 6" Python and it says right on it 6" 686 also. Still sticks out at least 1/2". You'd think it should be at least 6.5-7" long to give some coverage at the bottom. My barrel is a bit over 6" for some reason like 6.25" I'd of thought it...

It says 6" medium frame stamped right in the leather. Must be the "new" way there made.
