Gift from a Friend—High Standard Supermatic Citation—Fooled Me

A recent addition to my collection, a circa 1958 Model 102 Trophy with the 10" barrel. The weights and muzzlebreak were included, which constituted nice bonuses. It also came with one of the aforementioned cadmium plated magazines, which may have been original to the gun, but for previously...

    Inherited K38 special

On the other hand, if it's simply a K-frame Military & Police with the non-prefixed serial number 390728, it'd have most likely shipped in 1922. We really need a picture or two here, including of that number on the butt.

Gift from a Friend—High Standard Supermatic Citation—Fooled Me

The "white" magazine is cadmium plated. There is a difference of opinion about whether these date to the period in which your gun was manufactured or a bit later (around 1959). In any case, High Standard abandoned them pretty quickly. The plating process was flawed in that a corrosive...

need some help - vintage K 38 nomenclature and date

If it were to letter as having been shipped with those target stocks, that would make it pretty special.

    WWII mystery. .38 S&W revolver

First off, welcome to the forum. I'd remark that the stocks (grips) appear to be a poor fit, so I suspect if they're removed any stamp inside will not match the serial number. I'm intrigued by the circular discoloration behind the cylinder latch, perhaps indicative of a defaced/removed marking...

    Pre-Model 10 (I think) Date of Manufacture

The defacement of the frame below the cylinder latch is lamentable, although it ought not affect its serviceability. For what it's worth, serial number 612507 shipped in March of 1931.

    1960s S&W Model 60 Evolution

Thank you for the updated serial number range on the pilot production run. I was working off the old published data and obviously hadn't read the recent Journal article just yet. My question would be whether that much earlier #391978 might've been something of an outlier, along the lines of a...

    Post War 38 M&P Snubbie

Mine which shipped in February of 1949.

    A long sought after .22

A similar sort of .22 automatic pistol, in this case a pre-GCA MAB (French made) in its original box with all the accoutrements plus a very official looking certificate. Note the extra thumbrest left grip that was furnished with it.

Help with definitive ID and value

The Luger appears to be one of the rebuilt "VoPo" types that were imported in the 1990's. The C96 looks almost too nice to be true, so possibly refinished, but if so really well done.

38 M&P, So Many Red Flags

I can see easily enough why it's suspect as to originality of the finish. I also have an example of these earlier postwar M&P snubnoses. One of my faves.

Trying To Narrow Date Of Production On Post-War Pre-Model 10 (S Prefix)

For what it's worth, S984586 shipped in March of 1948.

    Marlin takes S&W mags.

The Marlin made magazines are tough to find, so most everyone uses S&W Model 59 equivalents. Another thing to watch for is that the original hardwood stock is prone to cracking behind the receiver. I replaced mine with the Choate folding stock (they also make a telescoping M4-like version).

    .22/32 Heavy Frame Revolver

139237 is one of the initial production run of 22/32 HFT's from 1911. It is not one of the 294 actually shipped to Philip Bekeart. If the stocks are original, there should be a 3 or 4 digit number stamped into the base of the left panel. I've no explanation to account for the barrel being...

    USAF Baby Aircrewman

Here's the commercial version of the "baby" Aircrewman, an early Chiefs Special Airweight with the alloy cylinder (I actually have two of them). It's my understanding that a reason these are even less common than they might otherwise be is if one was returned to the factory for any reason, a...
