A picture would help shape my answer...
if it has pits in the surface, it may be not worth refinishing as a lot of metal will need to be removed to give it that original look finish. The roll marks will probably be leveled out too.

I bought a 629 from the Bremerhaven Rod and Gun Club in 1985. It has the same proofs... It was re-proofed by S&W when it came back to the states - there was a question about the steel used in it construction. I still have it...

the antlers stamp is a German proof mark. US guns imported into Germany get proof tested. I bought a 629 there in the late '80's that has them... ETA - or if it was assembled in Germany it may have had the same requirement...

and sent a return authorizing the credit card for repairing gramps model 19-3... will also get a re-blue and new grips.
If things go to plan, should have it returned around April/May 2016... I can't wait.:)
