The Mahogany presentation cases used in the shipment of the N frame guns form 1960-1983 is probably the easiest box to portray as "original". There is only one possible way to prove a particular gun was originally sold in the period correct Mahogany case and that is if the original cardboard...
Dump 1567, you are correct! This was the first occurrence of this configuration. I corrected the quantity shipped in my post. There were 8 distributors that received these 171 guns. Jovino received 20 guns.
The original special Jovino guns were for a 3" heavy barrel square butt guns! There were 171 made in 1972 but not shipped until 1978! These guns had an "R" prefix with 5 numbers. All of these guns were shipped on 12 Jun 1978 to eight different distributors! To the OP; would you share the...
I can not explain how a pair of guns end up with the same serial number, but in the
S1679xx serial numbers I show 9 pre 29 duplicate pairs! All shipped in the time period from Mar 1957 - May 1957
I'm confused! Is a "first year gun" a gun that was shipped on any month of the year of introduction or a month in a period which ran from one year to the same month of the next year? The answer could mean a very large difference of first year guns in any particular model!
If you look at the picture you will see the barrel stamping, " 22 Long Rifle Ctg"! That is a mod 17 barrel! A model 53 Jet barrel is stamped "22 Magnum" and a mod 48 barrel is stamped "22 MRF"!

My Jet came with a 22 LR cyl and an additional 22 Mag cyl. ...Pretty certain the mag was added by the wholesale
Does your reference, "22 Mag cyl." mean the 22 Rimfire Mag cyl. or the 22 Rem Jet cylinder? The 22 RF Mag(mod 48) cylinder is 1.62" long, which is too short...
There are 3 different Black presentation cases.
The bottom latch, oval type, was the first used on the pebble grain type case. The other 2 were used on smooth type cases. Sorry I do not know the years associated with each type case! The top case latch was used on the very first 8 3/8"...
If you are shooting the brass in the same gun, full length resizing is not needed. In a revolver you might run into problems because of the multiple chambers., but in a single chamber gun you will be fine! With bottle neck cartridges you will neck size only which retains the bullet on the...
To the OP! FIRST, you must decide which class of buyer you fall into. Are you a collector, a collector/shooter, or just plain shooter?
A collector will usually pay a premium for his choices which probably include all the accessories that were with the gun from the factory. The condition...
When looking for one of the 196 guns be very careful! These guns do not follow any particular protocol in regard to boxes and grips! S&W used whatever leftovers they had on hand to sell these guns
Here are two examples! Note the differences in the boxes and I have seen these guns in J...
