I like my 457 and think it's a very underrated piece, being one of those "budget" guns. The last S&W semi-auto I let out of its cage was my M&P 2.0 9mm back on Memorial Day. I usually spend more time shooting revolvers than bottom feeders.

Can someone please tell me when S&W stopped serializing N-frame stocks (Magnas) to match the gun?

My only one, which is a DA .44 First Model, SN 26813 with unknown bone (or tusk) grips. Wish I knew what year it is from, but I'm hazarding a wild guess of late 1880's?

The only one I've had the fortune to snag so far is this 1989/90 629-2 "Mountain Revolver", which was the predecessor to the models that were actually marketed as the Mountain Gun. As you can see, it came with a "vapor hone" finish and the barrel was not stamped (or etched) with the Mountain...

It looks normal to me, too, in regard to their standard brushed stainless finish. It's been that way for quite a few years, now.

IMO this should be completely unacceptable! Both products are commonly used for gun cleaning, and they need to find a consumer-friendly solution for the bluing process. Don't 3rd party gunsmiths do (better) bluing jobs all the time without the limitation of not being able to use Hoppe's #9 or...

I was happy to find this 2-inch 64-4 NY-1 about 3-4 years ago. While some folks may not have considered it a "bargain", the price really wasn't too bad and I have no regrets, especially considering the fact it included the correct box.

Some of those Thai grips are actually very nice. I only spent about $50 on these, and they fit almost as snugly as a set of Craig Spegels that I also own.
