I started my LE career in 1989 with a revolver, but pretty quickly moved to autos as soon as I could attend the auto pistol class. I did carry various S&W revolvers as back-up guns for the entire 29 years. My dad retired from the same dept. in So. Calif and revolvers were the only approved...
I don't collect PD issued guns, but I have a San Francisco PD issued S&W Mod. 58 and a WWII Colt Commando with 2in. barrel that shipped to the San Fernando Police in Los Angeles Co. Calif.
My dad and I both retired from the same sheriff's dept. in So. Calif. He started in 1959 and was issued a used Colt Official Police. In 1970, he was issued a new S&W Mod. 10-6 (Heavy barrel). He carried a personally owned Colt Trooper for a short time in the mid 60's until the sheriff ordered...
I enlarged the first photo of the OP's Victory and it sure looks like the ejector rod, hammer and trigger are parked, which would be a sure sign of a refinish. I would take a good look at the gun to confirm before making a deal.
You don't need to enter eligible guns in your book that you owned prior to obtaining your license. If you sell a gun you had prior to your license, you do have to record the sale in your book. As far as your question of why you need to enter a gun in your book if you did not use your license to...
The machined off markings were most likely post WWII German police markings. I have a Victory close in serial number that is marked Bavaria Rural Police in the area of the removed markings on the OP's gun.
I respectfully disagree with opoefc as to re-stamping the serial number. The issue of removed serial numbers comes up often on internet forums. The simple answer is if the serial number has been defaced or removed, the gun is illegal to own. You can not simply re-stamp the original number on the...
About 7 or 8 years ago, I had to have a P7M8. I found one of the former German police guns with 3 magazines for $700. I took it to the range a few times and it was a great shooter, but the front of the grip frame and underside of the trigger guard got so hot after a few mags that I had to put on...
I think we're already beyond repair here in California. The Libs have a Super Majority in Sacramento and they can't stop spending and adding new taxes for the working people to pay for their mess. I'm looking forward to retiring in about 6 years so I can move back to the United States.
Frank Bank became a financial adviser and my grandmother and parents were clients of his for a while. I met him when I was a kid, he was a friendly man.
