    Ever had a revolver fail?

Been shooting S&W revolvers over 40 years & shot 10's of thousands of rounds. Personally never had a "mechanical failure" that didn't involve a used gun that had a "home gun-smithing job". Of those, 2 come to mind, a 686 hunter that the previous owner had ground the sear notch down to nothing...

Model 617 and CCI Standard Velocity

Wish I ask more questions "here", because a few years back I got rid of a beautiful 617 because it only liked one kind of ammo & would miss-fire way too often with the ammo I preferred. Bet the cylinder reamer was at the end of it's production run, but that thought never crossed my mind & I...

    686 3-5-7 or 686-4 or ???

personally I prefer the -3 586 & 686 revolvers. Probably just me but I think they have the best factory trigger over all. All the ones I have are keepers.

Rookie question about a Model 13

I have a M-13 that has a bobbed hammer from the factory (and a really great trigger), but it is a -4. Don't really know if they ever had a factory -3 with a bobbed hammer but it would be worth checking out. I sure wouldn't worry about the grips being synthetic. So at 350 if the mechanical &...

Performance Center Model 13 With PICS

Thank you DC7, that is the info that I couldn't remember, the prefix being the code to first or second run. Did not know that they started both runs at 0001, which is funny since my S/N is above the 200 number. Wonder if they made a few extras?, but anyway that is why I thought the S/N must...

Performance Center Model 13 With PICS

I have one of the first run revolvers and I love it. Great trigger, and the ports are not an issue but do seem to help with hot loads. For carry I use +P 38 ammo with low flash powder and I have no problem with with flash blindness at night, and my eyes are getting rather old. About the serial...

Need holster advice (3" K frame)

May be a little more "padded" than you like but I really like the Gould & Goodrich size 62 for my M13 carry

The best S&W you have ever Lost

Sad story: true: 1989, the A/C trade hits bottom, made a "temp' (loan) sale of my wifes favorite 586, 6 inch, a beautiful revolver (and a few guns of mine on outright sale to others.... i.e. I sold mine & knew they are history!) She had one great revolver, super trigger, great blueing...

    686-3 questions

Just a little more info, from my notes on the 686-3 Classic Hunter: It should date between 1988 and 1993, also it seems that (data varies?) there should have been some 5 to 7.5 thousand Classic Hunters (of all dash numbers) produced. I'm sure there is much more exact numbers and info out...

    686-3 questions

It looks just like a 686-3 Classic Hunter that I own, except yours appears to have been modified. Flute-less cyl, same, but mine is still SS. Plus on mine the front sight is the std S&W insert ramp style, and there is no "art work" <G>. BTW, my S/N is BDRXXXX. The Classic Hunter with...

Grip dilemma on 686 & old broke finger

I have very bad (large) knuckles and I have found that with our 586 & 686 revolvers the finger grove Pachmayers are much more forgiving where knuckle to trigger guard contact is a concern.

686-3. why did I do this?

Looks very nice and that is fair price. Wife'y & I tend to only purchase 586-3 & 686-3. They always seem to have a very good (to great) trigger, are accurate, and in general are a class act.

crimson trace, useful or a waste of money?

Our eyes are getting pretty old, exsp low light vision. We both have trained in "point shoot" (ie no sights used) at 15 yards or less & score very well. But, in real life this "training" could be between you & the BG! Finally I broke down & put a set of C.T. Grips on her 586. Took her about...
