I have a 4506 that came with mags with steel followers.

I had a 4586 which I put a 17 pound mainspring and a 3 pound trigger return spring in and it was great. The trigger return spring change was the most notable change to me.

I love mine! I love my 4506! My real love is a 645, though. I wanted a 645 so much when they came out. I had a 59 and 659 at the time and no gun store would take those in trade for a 645 at the time. I eventually traded the two pistols towards a Beretta AR-70 (wish I had that now too) and...

I replaced the mainspring and trigger spring in my 4586. The trigger was already smooth, but just a little heavy. The trigger pull is really nice now.

Take it apart and show us the barrel...and the insides.

Not a 4566 and 4516 but the grip lengths should be the same.

The Hogue 4506 grips are two piece grips. There are no 1st Gen 45 semi-autos. Basically, 1st Gen are Model 39 and 59 models (9mm) that had no firing pin safety. When the 645 was introduced the the 4xx and 6xx 9mm models with firing pin safety (2nd Gen) were already in production.

If you press down on the barrel hood it will depress, but also look at your slide because it's moving back. Put your thumb at the back of the slide and keep the slide forward as you push down on the barrel hood...the barrel shouldn't depress...like JAREDSHS said.
