I have a 4506 which is a third generation.
I believe that the 645 was the second generation.
Does anybody know which model was the first generaton?

Another question. The 4506 has wrap-around stocks, while the 645 has two panels that attach to each side.

Are there two piece stocks available for the 4506?

Thanks for your help.

The 645 was introduced about midway through the second generation run, there weren't any first generation 45's. The only two-piece grips for the third generation guns are ones like the Hoque grips that use two panels that wrap around the back and meet there.

The Hogue 4506 grips are two piece grips.

There are no 1st Gen 45 semi-autos. Basically, 1st Gen are Model 39 and 59 models (9mm) that had no firing pin safety. When the 645 was introduced the the 4xx and 6xx 9mm models with firing pin safety (2nd Gen) were already in production.

There is a transitional model that had features of both the 2nd and 3rd generations. I don't know if any had the two-piece grip frame. the only difference my model 6453 has compared to the 4506 was the "red" safety dot indicator is located on the slide not the frame and the slot at the mag catch is oriented a little different.
