I use 23 grains of W296 under 240 grain XTPs in my Super Redhawk 44 mag with 9 1/2 inch barrel for deer hunting here in Missouri. The bucks don't know what hit them when I put one in the boiler room. Never had a lick of a problem with this load for many years now and I shoot a couple hundred...
I have killed 9 Missouri bucks and more than twice as many does using my 44 mag handloads with 240 grain XTPs. Not a failure in the bunch. Most shots were at 30 to 75 yards using my Super Redhawk 9 1/2 inch with 4 power Burris scope using 23.5 grains of Win 296. This setup works well for me and...
I flare the case just enough so the bullet will barely manage to sit atop the case without falling off the case as I let go of it to seat it. You don't need to flare much at all.
I shoot about 50 to 75 rounds a month in my Super Redhawk. I shoot 240 gr JHP XTPs over 23.5 grains of Win 296. I hunt whitetail with this load and it serves me well. As for brass it does seem to be hard to get at times for a decent price. I shoot them till they crack which doesn't happen very...
I use WLP primers for my 44 mag loads using w296. I have shot thousands of these rounds in all sorts of weather without a single problem. I don't think I need to use a magnum primer when using 23.5 grains even whenii am whitetail hunting in the sometimes very cold mornings here in Missouri.
While I can't comment on the .500 problem with any authority I can tell you that I use Titegroup in my model 945. I have fired many thousands of shots with it without a problem. I find it a very accuraye loading using just 4.4 grains under a 230 grain FMJ round. I will continue to use it in this...
I havw a Lyman DPSII and like it a lot. I always set my RCBS 750 scale up next to it and double check every 10 drops or so per batch I am working on, There is a difference of 1/10th of a grain between the two scales at any given time. Once you get a rythm going you can move along at a good clip...
I like W296. I shoot 23.5 grains under a 240gr.XTP out of my Ruger Super Redhawk with 9 1/2 barrel for whitetails here in Missouri. I do not use a magnum primer just WLP primers and have never had a problem even in cold weather. Excellent accuracy and the big bucks don't go far when I put it in...
I have the RCBS hand primer. I only use the hand primer when I am working up a new load or a small number of shells. Usually 50 or less. When I do this I am wanting the utmost in accuracy and double hand weigh each load with my Lyman DPS then double check un the RCBS scale. I agree that I use it...
I shoot 23 grains of W296 under 240 gr XTPs for whitetail hunting out of my scoped 9 1/2 inch Super Redhawk. Does wonders on big bucks here in Missouri. I get multiple loadings out of my cases and usually shoot at least 20-30 rounds a week at the range. Brass is not cheap for sure and most of...
