This looks like something I might want to get into. Are these guns available only from dealers?

As far as I know, there is no aftermarket thumb safety for the either the M&P 40 or 9.

22s may be fine for plinking on a budget. However if you have a weapon for home defense you should practice with it. Having to deal with a maniac hopped up PCP coming through your front door in the dead of night is not the time to become accustom to your weapon.

At $372.00(incl tax) for my new SW9VE. I would not exactly call that a poor persons gun.

+ 1 for 9mm Cheaper ammo for target practice and good hollow points or hydroshock makes it a good home defense weapon.
