    617 cylinder swap

TomCatt, I took your suggestion and placed the cylinder in a soft jaw vise. Then I placed a 100 watt lamp above the work, and cut the ratchet teeth with a coarse diamond stick. By holding the Diamond stick parallel to the jaws it was easy to form ratchet teeth at the correct angle, the whole job...

    617 cylinder swap

I received the 10 shot hand in the morning mail from Brownells. Real fast service in as much as I ordered it Friday afternoon. bgrafsr said his 10 shot cylinder was a drop in fit, he was lucky mine will take extensive ratchet work. It looks as much as .050" will need to be removed from the end...

    617 cylinder swap

Bill, I hope that this project turns out to be as easy as yours. I don't like the thought of hand filing ten ratchet teeth. I had to take .002" off of the ratchet locating pad, to get the cylinder to close. I ended up with .008" front gage and .005" rear and no end shake. Thanks again

    617 cylinder swap

I recently bought a new ten shot cylinder from Brownells, to install in a 617 6 shot. At the time of purchase I asked Brownells tech support person if I would also need to purchase a hand to go along with the cylinder, he had no idea. After inspection it is obvious that A different hand is in...

6 shot to 7 shot conversion

One question on your very neat conversion job. When installing the 7 shot cylinder were you required to change to a hand specifically designed for the 7 shot cylinder or were you able to fit a normal 586/686 hand?

Load info for Berry's 158grn RN

I have shot close to 8,000 Berry's 158 rnds bullets over the last three years in a model 627 / 8 shot. The load I use is 4 gr. of tight group with a medium-to heavy crimp, this load has very mild recoil in my heavy N-frame, but never fails to take down the heavy steel poppers (if I do my part)...

Thank you John, That is exactly what I was asking.

    Setting back a 45 L.C. barrel to .45 ACP?

Easy question, can it be done? I don't have a long colt barrel to measure but it seems as you would lose about six threads in the process, also what is the twist rate of the L.C. as compared to the ACP?

    Removing "Lady Smith" from revolver

I would never think about removing the lady smith logo. The reason being if you were ever unlucky enough to be forced to shot a miscreant, one of the numerous ambitious anti gun Democrat DAs would have a hard time saying in court that you were some kind of macho Rambo type looking for an excuse...

    Liability in carrying modified guns?

I think the answer to your question depends on what the modifications are. I have three Smiths that are used as carry and home protection arms. All three have been modified to double action only. You certainly don't want to give a lawyer any more ammunition to use against you in a legal...

    Vans Bluing

No, a cold blue will not make a beater look like a new gun. But a gun as you describe, can be made to look VERY good with one of many products on the market. One of the easiest to use is Brownells Oxpho-blue.
