Has anyone shortened their 1:8 5R barrel from 16" to 14.5" (pinned and welded muzzle devise). If so did it affect accuracy? I have been interested in doing this but am leery due to the progressive twist rate. From what I understand the barrel starts as a 1:9 and ends in a 1:7 averaging it out...

OP what rifle did you get in the first place? Does it have a front sight base? If so I would look into handguards that use the factory barrel nut instead of a proprietary barrel nut, but that is how I feel and it can limit your choices. Not sure about the bravo rails but IIRC the alpha rail...

Magpul xtm's are hard plastic! Oops you asked about the XT panels. Not 100% sure about those, but IIRC they too are hard plastic.

LaRue index clips are pretty cool IMO. A pain in the rear to remove though! It is a mix between ladders and covers. Ergo ladders work too!
