I have a collection of 3rd gen pistols in my collection along with the current light weight striker pistols. This posting got me thinking about my 4516-1 so I looked for it amongst the black plastic stuff. Wow was I surprised when I picked it up after handling an M&P 9C! Then I picked up a 4566...
I have converted several 4013 40 S&W to 1013 10MM. Part of the conversion is to use a 10MM finish reamer to cut the chamber deeper. Perhaps you can do the same for your project.
I am with all you guys on the attraction to 10MM. I converted three Smith 4013 to 10MM. One went to my son and I kept the other two. Also have two 610's, G20, Smith 1066 and a home built 10MM AR SBR that uses Glock mags. I bought 10 boxes of very reasonable Sig ammo for test and use my reloads...
Not only is that a very good buy, the gun is in great shape! With the outside in that condition I would expect it was shot very little and the frame wear areas will have a lot of life left.
Is there a source for a spacer that would fill the gap for using a 1006 magazine in a 1013? That same spacer may also be used with a 4506 magazine in a 4516. I tried making one but it really turned out ugly.
I too have finished my latest 1013. Had this plan to customize the slide to look like a Performance Center slide with the long deep cuts but was advised that in the 10MM conversion you can't afford to loose too much mass. Makes sense. But I wanted a little SHOW so I made a small cut 0.003" deep...
I am far enough along in this project to Cerakote a few parts. I decided to salvage the beat up grips on this LE pistol instead of buying new. After a lot of sanding and filing the grip looked ok. The color is Glock Gray. Kind of wanted a Lady Smith gray but couldn't identify suck a Cerakote color.
After taking a hike up the mountain I decided to take some measurements and take a photo. The pilot is .2235" in diameter and the barrel end of the cylinder is .2135" so it won't fit. I will try to post a photo of the cylinder with the reamer. As you can see the pilot must come out the end of...
I purchased the same Manson 22LR finisher reamer as shown above. Today I tried to ream my 617 10 shot cylinder and it wouldn't even start to cut. It would go in about 3/4" and stop. There is no way the pilot end would allow the reamer to proceed. I tried to fit the pilot into the discharge end...
Thank you for this post. I too have loading and clearing issues with my 617. I just ordered the Brownells cylinder reamer. My inexpensive Ruger Wrangler also needs some help.
So before being run out of the shop, I rechecked and sanded the grip. Yes you can buy new but I wanted to save this one. The next step well be to blast it and give it a Glock gray Cerakote finish. This will take two arms and I have two weeks to wait to get the left arm into light duty.
