The Long-Barreled Smith & Wesson Thread

I guess I'll pay too... This is my fairly recently acquired 29-2, which does not appear to have ever been fired. My photography is not up to the standards of some of the posters here, but anyway, enjoy.

Most accurate .22 ammo for Smiths?

My Model 17-4 really seems to like the Winchester/Super-X 40 gr. "Power Point HP" ammo. This was recommended to me by a friend and gun shop owner, who also has two model 17s. Many brands of .22 ammo will shoot "okay" to pretty well in my Smith 17, but the above is the best I have found thus far.

    Model 17-3 Price Check

In the "People's Republic... ... of California," that would be a great price for a mint 17-3. One does not see all that many model 17s and they tend to be snapped up as soon as they hit the shelves. I would grab it and ask questions later.

    Model 15 vs 19

I have both, a model 15-3 and 19-5 with the 4" barrel. The model 15 is the more accurate of the two, and my preferred traditional S&W revolver. Accuracy wise, the 15 rivals my 6" barreled 686+, which is the proverbial "tack driver". If you are only going to be shooting .38's, then the model...

    Service vs. Target Frame

I have a Model 19 as well and the original factory target grips were pretty "chunky" for my hands. I read somewhere here on the forum that the new wooden replacement "targets" from S&W were much slimmer in profile, so a purchased a set... The newer grips fit my hands much better than the older...

    Help in Determining Values

Location is a factor... Prices vary from region to region, with California [with its restrictions on importation of non-"drop tested" guns] being one of the more expensive places to buy a "pre-owned" Smith & Wesson. Listing your state in a post would be a good idea in terms of getting relevant...

    Picked up a Model 17, K22 today-PICS

Nice K-22 Masterpiece. You did well. I recently picked up a Model 17-4, albeit in 95%+ condition, but without the box and goodies, for a good bit more than you paid. Model 17s of any flavor are getting pretty hard to find. Congrats!

    Price Check 27-2 8-3/8"

+1 on the above. In my market area [which is admittedly on the high side] that would be a very attractive price, indeed. If I saw one matching your description for sale here, my hand would be already reaching for my wallet. Good luck, I hope it is still there.

    Newly Acquired Model 17-4

Understood... lol. In terms of S&Ws, I seem to be working my way through the "teens"; I started with a model 19, then acquired a 15 and now a 17. I do also have a 29... so now I need a 27, right? S&W "wheel guns" are an addition, and this forum is NOT a 12 step program... not even close...

    S&W 586 no dash or 19-3 ???

Good choice! I own both a Model 19 and a 686, the stainless version of your new acquisition. My "19" is my nightstand gun, and the 686 is my "go to gun" for lots of range work. I most likely put a couple of thousand rounds a year through the 686, and perhaps a couple of hundred through the...

    Newly Acquired Model 17-4

After waiting the mandatory 10 days in the PDRK [People's Democratic Republic of Kali-fornia] I picked my new [to me] S&W Model 17-4; this is a "floating K" serial number gun that puts it around 1983. The revolver is in +/- 95% condition, and is only the second K frame .22 that I have seen at...

    Which J-Frame vs. Compact Pistol?

J-frames and off body carry. One drawback to the current J-frames is that the main spring is of the coil variety, and yes, they are strong... My lady friend has a 3" model 36; she is 4'10" and 100 lbs. The selection was made years ago by her Dad, a retired Marine Corps. Sargent Major. She...

    29-2 Unfired in Presentation Case

Here in Northern California... a +/- NIB long barreled 29-2 in a presentation case would run $900 and up, that is if you can find one. The OP did not indicate location, but prices here on the west coast tend to be a bit higher than elsewhere.

The ultimate Model 19/66 Combat Magnum thread

Model 19-5 Neither pinned, nor recessed, this Model 19 comes near the end of the model run. An "AJU" series serial number puts it somewhere in 1985 in terms of production date. The pistol belonged to my uncle, and was sold to me by his son, my cousin who is a "Glock Guy," at a very...

    New acquisition: Model 29-2

Good Morning, Forum: As a long time "lurker" here, it is high time for me to make a post. I thought I would share a quick picture of my newly acquired 29-2; this one does not appear to have been fired since it left Springfield in 1977-78. Enjoy:
