NEW 617 3 steps away from perfect

Good heavens. The burrs on the ratchet are ridiculous. That looks like a Taurus, for crying out loud. That is one of the things I always check for before buying a revolver. You see quite a few Smiths with that (although not often that pronounced). It should smooth out eventually, and I don't...

Average Age of Revolver Shooter Here

I'm 36 and love revolvers. I grew up in a family with a lot of guns, autoloaders included, but it always seemed that when something needed killin', it was a revolver that got the job done. Autoloaders were for target practice, revolvers were for serious work. J frames are my current favorite...

From Days Gone By... What DON'T You Miss?

Not having AC. Being broke. Being single. Rotary dial telephones. Roll-up windows in cars without air conditioning. High school. Bigots. Working for my old boss. Cassette tapes. The Navy.

    Howdy from Atlanta

Thanks guys for the warm greetings! I'm learning lots of great stuff so far. My wallet is trembling with fear- this could get expensive. So many revolvers, so little money!

Why do Colt revolvers go for so much $ these days?

I think it simply has to do with the fact that they aren't being made anymore. I paid what I thought was ridiculous money for a 97% condition '50's vintage, 4" Python a few years back. Now that I see what they're going for these days, I don't think I got such a bad deal on it. They are not...

    S&W 640-1 .357 Magnum

Full-power .357 through a J-frame is about as brutal as recoil gets. It straight-up hurts. And I don't think you get much muzzle energy benefit vs. .38+p through a short barrel as a trade off for the pain and crazy muzzle blast.

    Best rubber j frame grip

Good to know! I took it off of the 317 because I didn't feel it was necessary to tame the ferocious recoil of .22lr. :p It works wonderfully on the 348, makes it much more comfortable to shoot more than a few cylinders through. I might put those grips on my 60 pro series and see if it makes...

    New shoes for baby

Nice grips! I would go ahead and sand and fill those things until they fit perfectly. Ain't no sense having parts on your gun that don't fit properly!

    What is this 686-8?

    I love that cylinder release!

    Best rubber j frame grip

I like the grip that came with my 317. I took it off the 317 and put it on my 348. It's stock, so I guess it's Hogue. You can get a nice, full grip on it, which helps a lot with recoil.

The new Production 686P .357 Round or Square Butt??

Yes it is. 2010 production I believe. :)

    S&W J frame 43C

The little J frame .22s are super fun guns. Besides being great for inexpensive training, they're very handy to carry around. The airweights weigh next to nothing, and are great for a little trail gun or plinker. In the hands of a skilled shooter, they are capable of borderline astonishing...

The new Production 686P .357 Round or Square Butt??

The grips on mine are round. I know this because I tried to put an old set of square grips on it last night and they didn't quite fit. ;)

    Howdy from Atlanta

Howdy folks, I'm a newly minted member here, but I've been a lurker for quite a while, and have been active on Bladeforums for many years (same username). I joined this forum because my interest seems to be shifting away from collecting knives more and more towards guns as I get older, and...

G10 J frame grips from VZ Grips

I just ordered a set of these for my 317, and can't wait to slap them on. I have a set of VZs on my 1911, and they're the cat's pajamas. The 1911 grips feel lighter than the stock rubber ones, I imagine the J frame grips should be lighter than the stock rubber too. If the G10 J-frame grips catch...
