    44 mag and 357 powder

No one has mentioned Alliant 300-MP. It is slightly slower than H-110/W-296, does not require magnum primers, and I've had comparable results to H-110 at a significantly lower price. I've also flame cut my 586-0 top-strap pretty badly with both. I think I'll be going back to 2400 when I exhaust...

    Clean burning 44 Mag Powder

Do yourself a favor; skip the milsurp pulldown powders, which vary wildly from lot to lot, and go with Alliant 300-MP, which is nearly the same price with canister consistency and availability. For example, Barlett's (gibrass.com) WC-820 is $100/8 lbs right now. Most online retailers of 300-MP...

    new tumbler choice

Here's my Stainless Steel Media range report with pics, youtubes, filthy range brass cleanup before/after documentation, alternatives to the Thumlers, etc, posted on Shotgun World (you don't have to be a member to read: http://www.shotgunworld.com/bbs/viewtopic.php?t=290366#p2497236

    Range Gun in .357: K, L, or N Frame?

Appreciate the info; excellent attention to detail! When I got home today and removed the grips, I noted both aft screws are flat headed, and only the forward screw is a fillister head. I don't know if the previous owner swapped it out for a reason, by mistake, or if it came that way, but...

    Range Gun in .357: K, L, or N Frame?

Those stocks are off the gun now, and I am out of town and away from the gun, but I went back and looked at the pics, and I don't quite follow? :?

    586 Springs and Trigger pull

My 586-0 was great SA/DA out of the box. The wolff kit made it FANTASTIC, with 100% reliability shooting mag handloads. Best $15 you can spend.

    Range Gun in .357: K, L, or N Frame?

Speaking of price, since we are all "in the market," it seems useful to share. I believe it was neither a steal nor a ripoff, but fair given what I found out there, especially considering the condition and no dash. He wanted 6, I wanted 5, we settled on 5.5 FTF. Other than the load development...

    Range Gun in .357: K, L, or N Frame?

Since I had so many helpful responses, I thought you gents deserved some pics; everyone likes gun pics! After quite a bit of looking I found a 586 no dash with only slight muzzle wear and a cylinder line. Since I have already run 1500 full house .357 Mag hand loads through it DA, using goodly...

    I want to start reloading

Before taking the reloading plunge, check out: On Target Ammunition It's commercial reloads about as inexpensive as you can get. If you really want to reload, I would suggest getting a revolver so you don't have to chase the brass, and because the cases are much easier to handle and don't...

    357 mag loads for a 8in bbl?

I'm shooting 15.0 grs 2400, WW STD primer, and a commercial cast 158 gr SWC (no gas check), in my 6" 586-0. No leading. This load is listed and used by many shooters. While the Speer manual 14 doesn't go quite this high a charge, it lists all 2400 loads with STD primers. Conversely all...

How long do you tumble brass?

One thing no one but one guy mentioned was primer pockets. Are your pockets getting cleaned enough with tumbling to not need the pockets manually cleaned? From what I have read, this is where the Stainless steel media really "shines."

    Are magnum primers necessary?

No one has mentioned the "ball powder" issue. While 2400 looks kind of like a ball, it isn't. WW291/H110 certainly are. Ball powders are harder to ignite. That old article from 1982 seems to be out of date. The Speer Manual #14 ONLY lists Mag primers on .357 for WW296/H110 and HS-6 & 7. 2400 and...

    New 27-2 5"

Simply stunning Teesur! Great photography of the nicest revolver and best bbl length. You were smart to hold onto it. I had a 5-screw 5" with original Magnas and the Gold box. The gun had had serious timing problems, with firing pin strikes all over the face of the cylinder, which I why I...
