rifle for CMP tactical rimfire competition

Here is the rule book: http://thecmp.org/wp-content/uploads/CMPGamesRules.pdf?ver=02082018 The 10/22 can be used in the Sporter class, but the Tactical class requires an AR pattern rifle like the 15-22. There are some restrictions and the stated intent is not to start a technology war, but...

    15/22 compared to 10/20?

It is a very fun rifle for the family, too. I did some more ammo testing this past weekend at 50 yds. Shooting Wolf MT in the 10/22 (stock, several years old) I got 1 1/8" - 1 1/2" groups of 10-shots. The M&P (also stock) shooting Blazers got 1 1/2" - 1 3/4" groups of 10-shots. However, one...

    15/22 compared to 10/20?

That is where I am going. I have both 15-22 and 10/22. Leaving the 15-22 as is for a fun family plinker with the collapsible stock. Great rifle. Making minor DIY mods to 10/22 for ease if use and accuracy. Planning to get a Tikka T1X later that I will use and mod if need for better accuracy. I...

Any tips for using the 25-rd mags to prevent jams?

OK, that is EXACTLY what happens to me. When the mag jams the top round's tip is tilted down and won't feed. I loaded up four mags with the instructions you all gave me and I am anxious to try them out this coming Sunday. I will let my grandson do most of the shooting with these mags so it...

Any tips for using the 25-rd mags to prevent jams?

OK, thanks guys for the info about staggering the rounds. I see when I load it sometimes rounds will stack on top of each other rather than staggering left-right. I'm heading to the range next weekend so will load up a bunch of mags with staggered rounds and see how it works. I'm not sure...

Any tips for using the 25-rd mags to prevent jams?

I have zero issues when using the 10-rd mags with the 15-22, no matter the ammo brand or type. But when using the 25-rd mags I frequently gets cartridges jamming up in the mag and not rising to the feed lips. I think it might be partially due to the type of ammo, or specifically the bullet...

    Sling for M&P 15-22 Sport

I have I think the Magpul MS4 which can easily convert from 2-point to 1-point sling using QD attachments. I actually share it between an AR15 and the 15-22 using the same QD detents. Simple, quality build, and flexible conversion.

    What's your favorite semi-auto .22 rifle ?

For now it is the M&P 15-22 because with the adjustable stock it is perfect for a range of sizes in grandkids and adults. Easy to mount a scope or red dot, too, although the Magpul iron sights are better than most sporter rimfire rifle irons. HOWEVER, I am working on some upgrades to my 10/22...

    Old eyes

Good point about the mounts. For the 15-22 I don't plan to change optics but rarely. On my AR15 20" which I use for iron sight competition but also to test handloads I have a LaRue quick detach mount for a Zeiss 3-9x40 scope which holds zero well. I also use a QD mount for an Aimpoint PRO red...

    Old eyes

I have settled on a Leupold VX1 2-7x33 for similar purposes as you state (plinking, varmint, informal target). As stated by an earlier poster, shooting offhand anything over 4x is a problem. But it is nice to have some more magnification for testing ammo at 50 yds and 100 yds from the bench...

    CCI Mini Mag

With iron sights I doubt you will see a difference between MM and SV. In my 15-22 I get about 1 3/8" groups at 50 yds with CC SV and 4x magnification. With MM, I will get more like 1 3/4" groups. All are 10-shot groups. With irons I would guess there is more variance from unaided eye than the...
