    MIM parts failure

I had the hand that rotates the cylinder break on my 29-10. It is a MIM part, but I do not blame the failure on the fact that it was MIM. I did a review on what happened with some pictures in another thread if you are interested...

M29-10 Long Term Review (w/ one repair)

Hey guys, haven't posted here in a while but I wanted to do a long term review of my only Smith and Wesson so far, the 6.5" 29-10. Gun's (very short) history: I bought the gun brand new about 10 months ago and since then I have fired 950 rounds of .44 mag through it, most of which have been...

    Got a new Colt today!

Thanks for the replies! Shot it tonight and it was awesome. Put about 250 rounds through it with only two failure to feed jams, both with the stock magazine, not the Wilson Combats. Very accurate once I got the sights adjusted, which were way off for some reason. Got it cleaned up and can't wait...

    Got a new Colt today!

Thanks good to know. Mine only came with one spring (I think this gun was made in the 80s) so hopefully it's the normal one. I knew the newer guns came with two, is this also true for the older Gold Cups? It doesn't look like there's even a spot in the original box for an extra spring to go, but...

    Got a new Colt today!

Jcmack: I knew the series 80 had the firing pin safety and I know that the general preference is series 70 guns, but that's about as deep as my knowledge goes. I'm thinking about using this as a carry gun when I turn 21 and get my license, so the firing pin safety seemed like a good thing god...

    Got a new Colt today!

Thanks for the replies. I'll be taking it to the range tonight with a few friends and we'll probably end up putting about 200 rounds of factory ball ammo and a box of reloads I want to test out through it. I'm really hoping everything goes good this is the first gun I haven't bought brand new...

    Got a new Colt today!

Bought a never fired Series 80 Mark IV Gold Cup National Match today. It's awesome and I can't wait to shoot it. I also bought two Wilson Combat 10 round magazines for it. It's my first semi auto, but I have a little experience with Colt 1911s. I know it's not a Smith & Wesson, but I just...

    "Classic" smiths

I have one of the new 29s and it's awesome. Super accurate and lots of fun. It looks great too. I didn't like the grips that came on it but that's just me. Things like the lock, MIM, and not P&R make the new guns different from the old ones. Good thing I don't care, because if I did I'd miss out...

    Shield 9 Limp Wrist

Not sure if limp-wristing will cause the gun to function improperly (sorry), but I would recommend trying to stop shooting that way if you can. I used to limp-wrist really badly too, and if I tried to hold my arms and hands tight, I'd flinch. I did this even when shooting a Beretta 92 (9mm, full...

    quality of new S&W's

All the new ones I've seen have been really nice. I only own one, it has the lock, and it's been an awesome gun so far. I think the bad things about them are blown out of proportion

The Forum Has Taught Me Well - Two Rimfires

My grandfather has a model 41 that I have shot a few times. It's crazy accurate and lots of fun, and it looks cool too. Great guns, enjoy

    k frames and magnum rounds

Are you clarifying because you've been around since the 1870s and wanted to avoid confusion? Lol... Dude, we're young, not stupid. Most 5 year olds would know what you're referring to by just saying "the '70's". Sincerely, A Grasshopper

    Overtightened barrels. A big problem?

I ordered a classic 29-10 online and when I got it, the barrel was totally straight. It's probably just luck of the draw when you buy it before you see it close up

When shooting, how hot is too hot?

I'm not an expert, but I am a mechanical engineering student. My thoughts are that since the gun is made mostly of the same type of metal (the barrel and frame are, at least), all the parts will expand equally as it heats up, which is good. There's also stress to worry about, but I'm pretty sure...

    k frames and magnum rounds

My dad has a 66-2 that he bought new. He's put at least 3000 rounds of .357 158 grain rounds (power roughly equal to store bought .357s) through it with no problems whatsoever. If it were me, I'd avoid loading more powerful rounds than typical store bought .357s. If you have luck like mine...
