I was almost shot by my brother from a foot away when he tried stripping this way... needless to say I'm glad I trained myself to never stand in front of a firearm... or I wouldn't be typing this right now.
I'm stationed in Guam and just finished up my Padi cert a month ago, I'm also a pro photographer so it kills me not to bring my camera with me underwater.
Agreed, most of those parts you would polish don't have a finish on them anyways. I polished my trigger bar, sear, the small plunger under the sear, striker blocker, and part of my firing pin. All where with out a finish.
I scuffed up my sights pretty good getting them off. Then after some research I get some rebluing stuff from the door which did a pretty good job at getting to really close to the same shade of the gun.
I had a sight pusher that I borrowed from my brother, it marked it up pretty good. I used some stuff to reblu it and it pretty much matched the shade of my gun.
I just used a dremel with a felt tip and polished pretty much everything with out finish on it which helped out.
I also used metal polish to go with it.
