    My "new" 17-4

The 17 and 617 are loads of fun and cheap to shoot. The blueing on the 17 is striking.

    Renaissance Wax - Frequency?

Just So I Understand... Earlier in this thread, a question came up about whether one should remove the oil before applying the wax. It wasn't clear to me if one should do that. If so, is the wax replacing oil as a protectant? Shouldn't oil be reapplied before the gun is fired? BTW, the guns...

    New to Me CLP...Gunzilla!

Hopefully, this is the correct section to post this thread. If not, yank it and direct it elsewhere. While at a gun show yesterday, I bumped into a rep pedalling Gunzilla BC-10, which he hyped as the best CLP on the market. He said it is superior to other cleaners, lubricants, and...

    Moonclips for Model 624?

You're right! I didn't know what the S&W 696 was until I checked an auction board. No, I don't want that one. I guess I'll get the HKS or the Safariland Comp I, whichever is available at the Chantilly gun show in April. I noticed a pretty good price at http://speedloaderstore.com/index1.html...

    Moonclips for Model 624?

Why is that, Mack? I like the Safariland because the cartridges don't wobble. At least the ones I have don't wobble like some of the HKS speedloaders I have. When I checked the HKS website just now, I learned HKS has two series of speedloaders. The A series doesn't have cartridge jiggle...

    Moonclips for Model 624?

I checked the Safariland website and noticed the Comp I is the only one of the three that lists the 624. I really like the Comp III, but I don't see the 624 listed. I guess the HKS is probably one I should get. Thanks for the advice. I don't believe I'll machine the cylinder.

    Moonclips for Model 624?

Is the Safariland speedloader an option as well? I've used those in my .38 Spl handguns.

    Moonclips for Model 624?

I have yet to fire this recently acquired revolver. I wondered about the use of moonclips as I do with my 625s. I know moonclips are available, but do I need to have the cylinder machined? Also, what commercial ammo for practice and HD do you use. Frankly, I'm lucky to find cowboy loads...

    617 6 shot

If it is excellent condition, I would take it. You'll see them go for more than that on the auction sites. I have a 617 4" no lock. It is quite an accurate .22. I am tempted to get a 6" if one is available at a reasonable price. Fun gun!

    Protecting finish on Alloy/Stainless guns!

Militec is a good product. Also, I use Birchwood-Casey Lead Remover & Polishing Cloth on the cylinder and the forcing cone, esp. the area between the forcing cone and topstrap. The fouling buffs right off. Don't use it on blued guns! I use Blue Wonder for the bore.

    Leather Sources for Model 624?

Thank you, all. Lobo, your work is beautiful (now bookmarked). What caught my eye was the floral carved holsters. Until I saw those, I had a range holster or even open carry in mind that was boned to the model of gun. Now, I need to re-think my choice. Of course, the holster would not be...

    Several questions about a newly-purchased 686

Lead Remover Cloth Is Your Best Friend I believe it is made by Birchwood-Casey. It is mildly abrasive and works wonders on hard-to-clean areas, e. g., between the forcing cone and top strap. I would use it on all stainless steel surfaces without worry about marring the finish. However, don't...

    Leather Sources for Model 624?

No doubt this is the best place to ask. After a long search, I expect to have a Model 624 w/a 4" barrel in a couple of weeks. I would like to have a left-handed, OWB holster to carry it. However, I can't seem to nail down a company that makes holsters for this model. Can anyone suggest a...

    New 625 Owner

HokieMike, I'm glad I saw Buff's post before I commented. I agree with everything he wrote. I would emphasize the importance of choosing the handgun you are most familiar with as your HD gun. Also, if there is a remote chance kids could get access to it, get a small safe and lock it up! I...
