No doubt this is the best place to ask. After a long search, I expect to have a Model 624 w/a 4" barrel in a couple of weeks. I would like to have a left-handed, OWB holster to carry it. However, I can't seem to nail down a company that makes holsters for this model. Can anyone suggest a source? Appreciate the help.

I carry my 624 in a Threepersons Model holster from El Paso Saddlery. While I am not left-handed, their holsters are made to order and they will make them for either side.

I'll second the EPS holsters! Bianchi, and Galco also make some fine leather. I have holsters from all three, and have them that fit my 24-3 w/4" bbl. Lobogunleather right here on the forum makes some very nice looking leather, you may want to get in touch with him. His prices are very reasonable too.

Holster selection will depend upon your intended uses (field, range, concealment), your physique, and perhaps your usual wardrobe as well.

Your S&W 624 is made on the N-frame (also called the large frame, although S&W now makes larger models). It will fit in any holster made for the N-frame provided that the barrel channel is compatible with your handgun (original style underlug, full-lug, etc).

Beyond that, I would suggest that you use a sturdy belt in a width that matches the belt attachment points of the holster. This will improve comfort, concealment, and security considerably.

Every holster design involves compromises between four basic factors: comfort, accessibility, security (weapon retention), and concealability. It is up to the user to determine which factors are most important for his uses, and how much of the other factors he is willing to compromise.

Best regards.

I'll throw in a plug for the above poster, Lobogunleather, who makes quality products for reasonable cost. I have one of Ray's OWB for a 3" K, with 2 more holsters on order.

Sir, you might look for a holster designed for the Model 28 Highway Patrolman. The 624 and the Model 28 are almost identical in external dimensions. The chief difference is the height of the front sight blade--the 624's is a bit taller, but not so tall as to create a holstering problem.

Hope this helps, and Semper Fi.

Thank you, all. Lobo, your work is beautiful (now bookmarked). What caught my eye was the floral carved holsters. Until I saw those, I had a range holster or even open carry in mind that was boned to the model of gun. Now, I need to re-think my choice. Of course, the holster would not be boned if I chose the floral carving. I am thinking about replacing the front sight with either fiber optic or tritium night sight after I receive the transfer. Ron reminded me that I had better have this done before I order a holster and then tell the holster-maker about it.

You've given me what I asked. Appreciate the responses.
