Removing Primer Pocket Crimp in Military Brass

I guess there are tools you can use to remove the crimp on military brass but I've always just used a good knive with a sharp edge to remove them. Never had a problem doing so.

    K Frame .357 Magnum 2.5" bbl

My favorite load for years has been 13.5 grains of Hercules 2400 behind a 160 grain lead or jacketed soft point. Gets the job done and is easy on the gun (and shooter).

    S&W 19-2....

I also recently picked up a first year 2.5 inch model 19. Checked the serial # and it is K6842xx, so not too far off from yours. It is surprising how accurate these little guns can be-mine shoots as well as any 4" or 6" I have...and they can become addictive!

    Value of 19-4

I recently picked up a nice 19-2 blued snub. Checked the serial & found out it was made in 1966, which according to the SCSW was the first year of regular production of the 2.5 inch barrel. Needless to say it is a keeper-and a very handy shooter! And as 5Wire mentioned above, they are almost...

    Smith 39 9mm

I have a Model 39 with a slightly higher serial # than yours, # 860xx, that is marked on the left side "ILL. S. P. 1462". The factory letter that I got for it states it was shipped from the factory March 3, 1969. Hopefully that helps narrow it down a little as far as date of manufacture...

Model 19-2, early 2.5 inch barrel- proper grips?

I recently picked up a nice Smith 19-2 with a 2.5 inch barrel. It was made in 1966, which according to the SCSW book is the first year the 2.5 inch models were made. The only downside is that it doesn't have the proper grips. Would the proper grips for this era be the diamond magnas or "no...

    686-1 with 2.5" barrel

A local forum has a Smith model 686 with a 2.5" barrel and factory combat grips for $800. It is listed as a "686-1" but I thought the 2.5 " barrels weren't introduced until the 686-3 versions became available. I am tempted to get it but $800 seems a little high. Hoping the gurus here can talk...

    My First Model-15

Nice catch. I recently picked up a 2" 15-2 with a little blue wear, but it has a nice, crisp trigger and shoots like it has radar. It is more accurate than some of my longer barreled target pistols! I think the name "Combat Masterpiece" fits...in any barrel length! Enjoy!

    Model 39 Police gun-what year?

Great information guys...keep it coming! Ispcapt, my gun is in about the same condition as yours, and shoots my 115 grain hollowpoint reloads just fine-definitely a keeper! Sounds like I need to get a factory letter to go with it.

    Model 39 Police gun-what year?

I just added an older Model 39 to my collection marked "ILL. S. P. 1462" on the frame, which I venture to guess might be Illinois State Police. I may have overpaid a little ($460) but it was in pretty decent shape and Model 39's are getting scarce, and police marked guns always add a little...

    Model 60 w/ adjustable sights-value?

Looks like it has been polished. Here are some comments from the sellers post... Front ramp has been professional cut and added a red insert and has a jewel hammer and trigger and action as smooth as a nice colt python so the value is not there but needless to say its a one of a kind. Also...

    Model 60 w/ adjustable sights-value?

A gentleman on a local forum has a Model 60 with adjustable sights. It is in good shape and has the box, but the front sight has been altered with a red ramp. At the moment he is only looking to trade but I have a minty 2" Combat Masterpiece he may be interested in. Anybody have a good idea...

    Aircrewman...legit?

Thanks, db-I overlooked that thread somehow. No need having 2 threads on the same gun ;-)

    Aircrewman...legit?

A gent on a local forum has a Aircrewman revolver for sale. It still has the aluminum cylinder and is only marked "US" on the backstrap. It is in the correct serial range and ser. # puts it at 1957. He says it is marked "Revolver, Lightweight M13" on the left topstrap but hasn't provided a...

    Model 15-2, 2" snubbie accuracy & value

Looks like my problem is solved-I just found this nice, but used 1967 vintage 15-2 with a neat Air Force holster for a decent price at a local pawn shop. I doubt this is an Air Force issue, but it's a neat rig and the gun is dead on at 25 yards, and has a very crisp trigger pull. It has enough...
