M36 was dropped - broken hammer

...from the "break" it appears like the hammer is made from pot metal and not from a good quality steel????

M36 was dropped - broken hammer

This Model 36 is circa 1976. It had a fully exposed hammer. I dropped this gun on a concrete cement floor and the tip of the hammer broke off. Can I order a replacement hammer from S&W and have a smith install it? Is there a part number for a '76 Model 36 hammer? Thanks....

686 cylinder stuck - gun is loaded

when I checked the ammo the primer was spent but the brass case was filled with powder. I assume the squib was caused by some car wax or some other substance getting in between the primer and powder. I used once-a-year car wax in my brass cleaning vibrator.

686 cylinder stuck - gun is loaded

OK - Issue solved. I re-checked the gun with a wood rod and the problem was a squib (bullet) in the forcing cone. I pushed the rod into the barrel and the lead bullet went back into the spent case. This freed the cylinder. The primer was fired. ...not sure if the case had no powder or it...

686 cylinder stuck - gun is loaded

This gun is two years old, it is loaded and has a trigger safety lock. A feeler gauge was inserted between the frame and the cylinder just behind the brass ammo case that currently is aligned with the barrel. The feeler gauge will not pass behind the brass case/primer and the frame/hammer...

    Light strikes - Model 10

I took the gun back to the range today. Unfortunately, it still fails to fire about 1 time in 10. The reloaded ammo works fine in all three other Smith revolvers.... I suppose I will take it to a gunsmith.

    Light strikes - Model 10

....I checked the spring tension screw and it was tight. I removed the screw and it has not been filed down since there are small machine groves in the screw where it meets the spring. I reassembled the gun after applying a light coat of gun oil to the internals. I need to get the gun back to...

    Light strikes - Model 10

....ok, - me too, the first time at the range, I thought it might be high primers also. ...but after about 2,000 rounds of this reloaded ammo, the FTFs only occur in the Model 10 and not at all in the other 3 Smiths.... ...and the FTFs occur every 6 or 7 shots time and again with this gun...

    Light strikes - Model 10

...ammo that fails to fire has a light primer strike and the action feels light on these strikes when [after] the trigger is pulled. The firing pin looks normal and the gun has been well oiled.... I suspect it is a spring issue. ???

    Light strikes - Model 10

This revolver was in pristine condition - never shot when I bought it from a private party earlier this year. I believe the circa is around mid-1990s with factory rubber grips and a 4 inch barrel. Anyway, about every 7 or 8 rounds it fails to fire (FTF) which results from a light primer...

Poor fit of new S&W wood service J-frame grips

I was surprised at the poor fit of these new factory J-frame grips being sold by S&W. The fit is just-plain lousy. The wood is too big around all areas where the wood grips meet the steel frame. Should I return them? Product: J Round Dymondwood Checkered Service
