    Yep, another serial number search

I recently acquired a Model 28 6” in real nice condition. Using all my on line resources and my 4th addition Standard catalog of Smith & Wesson, I could could not come up wth a definite answer to when the gun was mfg. /shipped. Serial number is N507850. Any and all help would be greatly...

    S&W K-22 Masterpiece Mfg 1957

Post-war, 3rd Model Smith & Wesson K-22, mfg 1957 just prior to S&W changing over to Model Numbers. Caliber is .22 LR. Revolver features a 6” pinned barrel, 6-shot recessed cylinder, wood grips, adjustable rear sight, case hardened and serrated trigger and case hardened hammer. Right side of...

    S&W 29-2 8 3/8 1977

I have shot several that were mag-na-ported. IMO it doesn't make a whole lot of difference if you are not pushing the envelope on maximum recommended velocity. If you like the heavy loads, then it does help reduce muzzle flip which speeds up 2nd shots. Made a huge difference on the .454...

    S&W 29-2 8 3/8 1977

My first one was also in 1978 and I paid about the same price. I also had the Model 57, 8 3/8 barrel w/case. Bought it at the same price. Sold it a few years later when I needed money - didn't make a whole lot back then in the military.

    S&W 29-2 8 3/8 1977

Just acquired a nice 29-2 in presentation case. Gun has been mag-na-ported and has yellow insert on front sight. Box is in grat condition and the inside is not all busted up and original paper wrapping and all the tools are there. It has some muzzle wear and cylinder drag lines and a couple...

    S&W Letters

Thanks Jack Flash.... I think I was pretty lucky to find one in that nice of original condition that had not be parked. Spendy at $1450.00 but still cheaper than I have seen others in that condition go for. I'm happy with the gun, it's condition and the price I paid.

    S&W Letters

Thanks to all that suggested that I should get letters on my pre-17 K-22 and my 1917 US Army. They came in today's mail. My pre-17 K-22 was shipped on April 24, 1957 to Camfour Inc. in Springfield, MA - 6"barrel, partridge front sight, target hammer, target trigger, blue finish and checkered...

    K-22 pre-M17

Like the additional comments about the pre 17 and when marked in SN range. I have a letter comming from S&W and will know more when it arrives and to where it was sent hopefully. Will post when I get it.

    K-22 pre-M17

I think that is true of all the older guns regardless of type. I collect mostly pre WWI to Post WWII, unless I come across one like this one, and most every single one had to be stripped to parade rest to get it truely clean of all the hardened grease and grime. I've have built a "how to"...

    K-22 pre-M17

LOL.... yep it was all there. The rest of the internal parts were soaking in Hoppe's to get any gunk cleaned out. Not that there wasn't very much, just some old hardened grease. Typical for the age. I don't think it had every been disassembled since leaving the factory.

    K-22 pre-M17

Thanks for the info on the grips. Appreciate it.

    K-22 pre-M17

Thanks to all for the replies. SN is K289253, looked it up in SCSW and says it should be 1957 just prior to stamping M17. It must be the picture, the gun was really clean inside and the hammer and trigger are case color with real good colors left. The grips are not numbered so I suppose they...
