Flitz wax seems to be easier to use than Renaissance Wax, imo. BTW, Turnbull Restorations recommends using Rem Oil or G96 ONLY on case coloring and definitely keep all strong bore cleaners away from it for any length of time. I put a rag in the frame opening to catch most of the bore cleaner...

No, that's not accurate either. For instance, you can reliably shoot .45 ACPs without moon clips from a TRR M22. They headspace on the case mouth, just as they were originally designed to do in a 1911 Government model.

I know Ruger uses a chemical to give their guns a color hardened appearance. Does S&W actually color case harden their guns or do they also use a chemical like Ruger?

w1mnk...Are you talking about milling the rear of the cylinder to accept moon clips so the gun will shoot .45 Colt and .45 ACP with clips? If so, I am not sure there is a downside. I plan to have it done to my 625 MG in the next few months.
