Model 624 Recall and "F" stamp

624 Saga I guess my name is on a bunch of posts in this thread so I'd like to recap what I did with my nearly mint 6" 624 that didn't come with a box so the issue of the recall had to be solved. I had the cylinder magna fluxed after testing to see if a 44 Mag round would chamber. It wouldn't...

Why the decline of S&W 40?

Well, someone finally got to the caliber I appreciate. The 357Sig has all the boxes checked for me except price. But I'll spend my money on it because I shoot it well and the performance is what I need for SD. My M&P is very accurate and I can swap a barrel and buy a mag and shoot 9mm. Best...

    Win 473 powder

The Speer #11 manual has load data for pistol calibers for the 473AA and 452AA powders. They are not in any way similar even though they look similar. I used 473AA and 452AA to shoot 12ga trap competitively in Alaska years ago. We shot year around so the info that 473AA doesn't like cold...

    M&P's WITH NEW TRIGGER PULL

I have a .45 Mid-Frame (FS but 4" bbl) and after installing the Apex Flat forward set trigger and getting a 4# pull, I wanted the more tactile reset as the reset was very quiet and with little vibration. Smith was consulted and they said they won't sell me one of the new Slide Releases yet...

    M&P45 converted to .460 Rowland

WWG doesn't do the Rowland conversion on the XD anymore. Too many problems is the feedback I got directly from Jim West. I'd be very suspicious of any conversion that has not been engineered and tested thoroughly. Clark Custom Guns makes their kit for the 1911, but only for specific 1911's...

    M&P45 converted to .460 Rowland

Regarding a 460 Rowland conversion for the M&P......I have done one on a 1911 and it uses a 24# spring which is very hard to compress into the slide but is a requirement if you're going to use it very much. I am very happy with the conversion on my Springfield 1911. The Wild West Guns people...

    Cleaning stainless revolvers...

I have discovered the Big 45 Frontier Metal Cleaner for removing lead from bores, light rust (freckling) from blued guns and, just recently, for removing that black stuff from the cylinder fronts on my 624. These things are amazing and cheap too. The thing looks like a stainless steel scrubber...

Slide: Plastic sleeve inside? help needed

Works for .45? Does that solution work for the .45 pistols? I tried to move the liner on my .45 slide but it's not visible in that hole.

Model 624 Recall and "F" stamp

The recall was only for early 80's 624 stainless pistols due to a shipment of flawed metal they received. I understand from Kate that only one 624 has been found to be bad so far.

Model 624 Recall and "F" stamp

It looks as though Smith has expunged the entire history of the 624 from their records. I asked for it and was told the 624 was obsolete and that was why I couldn't get information. Did this happen to other discontinued models historically? I believe the answer is ..... No! Incidently, Kate...

Model 624 Recall and "F" stamp

An Update on the Smith recall of 624 pistols to dispel some of the variety of info I've seen here. Today, I called Smith about my 624 to ask about my S/N and get info from them. The fellow in Customer Service I talked to looked up my S/N and told me it fell within the range of the recall and...
