    Ballistol Question for M&P...

For my polymer and steel pistols, I use diluted Simple Green, spray on and scrub with a toothbrush. Spray again to 'hose off' the dirt, then wipe off with a lint free cloth. I blow it out of the nooks and crannies with compressed air, and then wipe again. Gun comes out squeaky clean. Then...

Carrying a backup gun? Why or why not?

As a LEO I patrolled with a backup. Off duty, and now as a retiree I feel comfortable with one gun, but now with some added 'perks' to make me feel more secure. Ive always spent time thinking about 'what if' scenarios. I dont see it as fantasizing, but as part of training and preparedness. As...

Carrying a backup gun? Why or why not?

Allow me to introduce myself :D Always carried a model 36 snubby as a backup to my model 10. In NYPD back in the 80s we had swivel holsters when assigned to vehicle patrol. If you are not familiar with these, google images will show you. Its swivel point was a bolt and washers affair. It was...

    5946 DAO

No sir, its a 5946, untouched as it was issued to me. Most do seem to have a mag disconnect feature, but apparently NYPD did not go for the feature. In hindsight, Im quite surprised they didnt. At the time, I was just giddy to have a high capacity 9 after years of having a 6 shot model 10...

Smith M/P line losing to Sig or Glock

On the trigger point Id respectfully disagree. Most L/E agencies - especially the large city ones that make major purchases - dont want crisp triggers with fast resets. They want deliberate, heavy triggers, with a reset as close to a double action revolver as possible. They will even use...

    Introduction Overdue :)

Howdy everyone, Ive been posting for over a week but never introduced myself. Retired NYPD after 23 years. Still have my Model 10 & Model 36 38s and my trusty 5946 9mm. Also original owner of a 686 no dash, no lock, 357. Current EDC is a M&P 9c, which I love , and just recently got my first...

    Howdy from Central Florida

Welcome! Im also in Central Florida, been here 10 years since leaving the Peoples Republic of New York :) I have a M&P 9c, close in size to your Shield. I am 6ft, and a stocky 250 - kinda barrel chested. For concealment I use a Galco King Tuk IWB. If you want to tuck an outer shirt in it...

    Case for AR-15

Well, my case and foam arrived! $60 Plano case from Amazon, and $20 for some Kaisen foam ( also on Amazon ). Kaisen is firmer and layered, allowing for cutting to your desired shape and depth. Im very happy with the results for my $80 and hour spent. :)

    5946 DAO

Yep. Me and Mike made the same choice, for the same reasons :D Im also retired NYPD, still enjoying this fine pistol. I was cleaning it this weekend and just discovered that Midway had replacement grips for sale. They are on the way :)

    Case for AR-15

Just ordered my $70 Plano case from Amazon, and for 20 bucks got a 2-/4" thick x 24" x 48" piece of Kaizen foam ( google it ). Its ultra firm and layered foam that can make a cheap case look more upscale. The downside I hear about the Plano is the mushy pluckable foam. As soon as Im done...

    M&P picture thread.

My EDC. 9C with Veridian C5L light/laser combo. I use a galco king tuck with ECR so the combo comes on as the weapon is drawn.

    M&P picture thread.

You must be an old timer, or were schooled by one - I have not seen rubber bands wrapped around a grip for added traction since the old timers that trained me in the 80s did it on their Model 10s. My PD at the time didnt allow grips other than stock issue, and the wood grips were lacking when...
