    Plated 148 gr wadcutters

Well, I tried 'em out at the range, and to be honest, I think I'd have trouble shooting myself in the foot with these things. I'll probably keep tinkering with it, but it doesn't look promising. On the other hand, I tried some out with 4, 4.5, and 5 grains of HP-38, and it looks like these guys...

230 gr. plated RN over 5.4 gr. of HP-38. Runs flewlessly through my Shield. Scotty

Here's what you need to know about plated bullets: The lower the velocity, the more they act like a jacketed bullet. The higher the velocity, the more they act like a lead bullet. Scotty

    Plated 148 gr wadcutters

Alright folks, I had some time to load up a few rounds and send them over the chrono. Winchester .357 Magnum brass, HS-6 powder, CCI 550 primer, (I always use a magnum primer with HS-6) Xtreme plated 148 gr. wadcutter (double-ended with a cannelure on each end) C.O.A.L.-1.355", light roll crimp...

#358477? Sorry, but that is definitely NOT a wadcutter bullet, at least not according to MY Lyman manual. If you're talking about #358091, my Lyman manual doesn't even give a loading for it in 357 Magnum. This is exactly what I'm talking about. Scotty

    Plated 148 gr wadcutters

Well, I'll come up with something. I'll work up a load and post my results here. Then, around 87 people will post with their own recipe. Scotty

    Plated 148 gr wadcutters

Hey, guys, we're talking about wadcutters here. You can't just go by the weight of the bullet. A wadcutter leaves quite a bit less space in the case than a conventional bullet design. It may as well be a completely different cartridge at that point. Scotty

    Plated 148 gr wadcutters

Yeah, these are DEWC. I have seen plated HBWC though, I wonder if the plating would help them hold together a bit better. I'll let ya know how it goes, might be a week or two though. Scotty

HS-6, I said. There is no data for 148 gr bullets in 357 Magnum using HS-6 on Hodgdon's site. I would use it if there were. Strangely enough, they do for 38 Special. Maybe I'll just start off with the max 38 Special data and work up from there. Thanks for nothing. ;) Scotty

    Plated 148 gr wadcutters

Hi guys and gals, I've got some plated 148 gr wadcutters that I'd like to send downrange at about 1100 fps from a 4" .357 Magnum revolver using HS-6 powder and 357 brass. It's really tough to find data for wadcutters at this level, so I'd like it if someone could give me some idea on where to...

    HS-6 38 Special

OK, as promised: Cartridge: .38 Special Case: Federal (fired several times) Bullet: Speer 158 gr LSWCHP (Speer #: 4628) Bullet length: .695" (I take these bullets out of the box, tumble-lube them with LLA, let 'em dry for a few days, then tumble them again in JPW and let them dry for a few more...

    HS-6 38 Special

Well, it's been a while now, and no answer from hodgdon. Anyway, I got the tools out and loaded up a few rounds to run over the crony. Federal brass, Speer 158 gr LSWCHP, CCI 550 primer, HS-6 powder. I seated the bullets up to the vestigial little crimp groove using a fairly heavy roll crimp...

    Lee Loader

Don't listen to the naysayers, the Lee Loader will serve you well. I perform each step on the whole batch of brass before moving on. Deprime all the cases, then resize all the cases, then prime all the cases, add powder and bullet for all the cases, you get the idea. If you can get a scale that...

With rising anmo cost, is there also a rising case for using reloads as SD ammo?

False equivalency? Not many people build little ships in bottles, but does that mean they should be persecuted for doing so? Of course not! How popular an activity is shouldn't have any impact on equivalency. However.....your last two point sort of render that whole can of worms moot. They make...
