    According to my notes, your S&W No. 3, serial number 26298, has a small naval anchor stamped on the butt. This is the sole Japanese marking known for this example. C/

    Mnrivrat, The markings (kanji) on the backstrap of your S&W No. 2 are both hand-applied and Japanese. They read, from top to bottom, as follows: “壬申 – 千二百二十一番 – 名東縣”, which translate “1871 (Western Year) - No. 1,221 - Myodo Prefecture.” Myodo Prefecture was once located in the Shikoku region...
