SMITH & WESSON MODEL 36 DOB

I just picked up a nice S&W mod 36 pinned barrel SN 4J70xx. Can someone please me when it was made? My Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson was not much help with the serial # and date. Thanks

    S&W 64 SERIAL NO Question

The Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson page 399 doesn't list the model 64 in the D Serial Prefix of models. Is this just a misprint? I just picked up a nice S&W model 64 pin barrel and the serial no. is D55xxxx and was looking up the dob when i noticed this. If this model no. was left out of...

    S&W 681 OVERSTAMP

Just picked up a nice S&W 681 that was sold to me as a model 686. It looks like the factory overstamped the second 6 of the model number with a 1. Has anybody seen one like this before? The only thing that I can think of is that Smith must have stamped out a lot of 686s and then deceided to make...

Does anyone know when S&W started and stopped stamping the last four digits of the serial number on the inside of the right hand grip? Thanks

    S&W 64-3

Is there anything special about a S&W 64-3 3" barrel round butt? I just saw one on GunBroker listed as rare with a BuyNow for $579. It had a bobbed hammer and it looked to be about in 90% condition. Just how rare are these? Thanks

S&W model 66 no dash question

Thanks for info. and the picture of the nice looking early 66. The Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson states that "First production models are found with a stainless steel rear sight rather than black. .400" target triggers, .312"smooth combat or .265" service triger. .375" semi or .500"...

S&W model 66 no dash question

Thanks for that information. I guess the only way to find out is to spend some money and ask Smith & Wesson for a factory letter based on the SN.

    29-2 at local gun shop

S&W 29-2 I just saw a S&W 29-2 6" barrel in a local gun shop here in Georgia and it was in great condition with all the goodies and even the wood box for $599.99. I would rather have this one for $100 more than the one you are looking at.

S&W model 66 no dash question

Hope that someone can answer this question as there is no metion in the S&W book. I have a model 66 no dash SN 2K633XX made in 1972 which I would rate at 98%. The front ramp, sight blade & rear sight are all in stainless steel. The target hammer & trigger are not stainless. Any idea when the...

    Model 10 and + P Ammo

Is a model 10 2" barrel made in 1973 rated to handle + P ammo? The model 64 is really a Mod. 10 in stainless and +P ammo works just fine. When did +P ammo ammo hit the market? I remember that Super Val ammo was all the rage back in the early 70s just wonder how it measured up to our current day...
