    cast lead for defense

'At's why I want to move me and the family to Texas! If I make it through the shooting and it was justified, no Civil charges can be brought either! I'm sayin' that's the way things ought to be!

    Unique Powder Charge for .38spl?

So, let me get this straight, Paul. I'm a tad dense so bear with me. Any 38Spl with a model number on the crane is fair game for 38spl +P loading? WHOOOOOOOAAAAA! Look out M14, here come' DA LOAD! :) (Kinda! ;) ) From the Hodgdon data website: 158 GR. HDY XTP IMR SR 4756 .357" 1.455"...

    cast lead for defense

Well, one thin' is for sho, no one has changed the opinion of one other individual in this whole thread! Kind of like beating a dead horse, when you see yourself doing it, by all means, DISMOUNT! Sounds like our friend Erich has the right "idear"!

    reduce charge when changing bullets?

Do you mean that you ventured around the unknown, with new components and your don't have a chronograph? At least you didn't post any data for one. If you are going to fool around and handload, not reload, I suggest you get one. The life you save may be your own. Perception can be a foolhardy...

    44 Spl

HP-38/W231 and Unique are both good powders for the type of loads you are looking for. Save the slower powders for those 44Mag guns you have. If you come up with a good 44spl round, try it in them too. You may have a good all around load come out of this. I load 44spl loads only in 44Mag cases...

    cast lead for defense

Don't use handloads, your luck is too bad! ;) 'Course, I had an uncle once that claimed to have been struck by lightning more than once, as I remember, I don't think he died in that institution, he came home for a week just before! ;)

Sizing and lubing cast bullets. *Updated 3\11*

Just a bit over 2 hours OK, just finished up lubing them, add another hour. Ran out of lube at the beginning so took time to refill and get started again. 2 hours actual time, probably closer to 3 with setup and prep and all that other stuff. All in all, not bad for over 300 bullets that are...

    reduce charge when changing bullets?

Shall we make it four? As these wise sages have stated, start over. It will give you more shooting time and make it a safe endeavor. If you don't go back to the starting load, I would understand. Say middle of the data to start. As OK noted, it would depend greatly on the load I was using to...

Sizing and lubing cast bullets. *Updated 3\11*

OK as Glenn Beck says: "Paradeigm Shift" Now THAT puts a whole 'nuther spin on this lubing bullets thing. Scratch all that I said in my previous post! Mess around as much as you want!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Give them boys a good time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Seriously! As...

Sizing and lubing cast bullets. *Updated 3\11*

How are you going to apply it? Pan lube? If so, it may be too soft to work well. I have experimented with Vaseline with a lube or two. Works well BUT is far from hard enough to pan lube with. Your mileage may vary, hope it does. Here is what you will find though. You will take infinite care to...

    cast lead for defense

Why vote to take away our rights, we just give them up willingly! It wasn't that long ago that everyone, police included, that used a firearm HAD to use handloads. OH, they didn't put them in a cartridge, they pushed them down a muzzle with a rod. In fact, most of the time they had to make the...

    cast lead for defense

Well said! I like the way you think, brother! (At least on this issue!) The sisification of America is intentional. It has been a plan since women left the home and gave up on being what they were designed to be, mom. Then the men stopped being manly, started wearing earrings and carrying...

Move the POI by adjusting the powder load

I have had bullet shape play a part in POI too. 158gr LRN out of my M586 w/3.5gr Bullseye hit about 2" high and 2" right over the same gun with 158gr LSWC. Nothing else changed, just bullet shape. I wonder if the reason John's bullets have different impact as he goes up in charge weight is...

    Help With Bullet Alloy

I think we agree OK, Read my entire post above. Here is what it had in it. I guess I already qualified mine and Bruce's statement. You raise a good point to use swaged HBWC for those kinds of firearms. The softer skirt will size down and then back up to get accuracy and eliminate leading. I...

    Help With Bullet Alloy

Linotype brittle? Well, maybe. Harder than wheel weights? Oh yeah. Like Bruce says, if a bullet fits, it fits. What I have had happen though when purchasing cast bullets is I get a bullet that I want to drive @700fps and it is .001" too small for the bore of my gun and is harder than...
