I was just cleaning my new 3" 686 yesterday for the first time after a 150 round session at the range. Bassitol did an amazing job... except on the burn rings on the cylinder and around the forcing cone.
I found a few threads like this one where a lot of people said if it doesn't come off...
When doing my research I settled on the 3" 686+ due to liking everything I read and viewed on Youtube about the gun... not only the many (I lost count) positive owner reviews but also what S&W said on the website.

Yeah... I stick to Sam's Club and Costco for my gas. It's a total PITA when it comes to getting in and out of those places... but there's always a lot of cars and always a lot of people getting gas.
To me it's a lot safer than a stop and rob next to the on-ramp to I-5.
I've read that. Some people prefer the +P SD loads over .357's. Easier on the hearing... easier on the follow up shots... etc... etc...
I actually just bought a couple boxes to take to the range and see how I like them in my 3" 686.
They can have the car too.

Ironically... I've got the same car... color too. Only difference is I wouldn't try to stop them.
No problems so far with my first 3 orders from LuckyGunner... same day shipped FedEx to the door. I like the fact that the site has customer reviews. That has played a big part in my purchasing decisions.
Will definitely have a look at the other places listed upthread to see if I can get a...
I purchased my new 3" 686 last month... went to the range about 2 weeks ago and fired off 150 rounds... and put it back in the safe.
I plan to go back to the range next week... at which time I will most likely clean it afterwards. Can't say I'm going to be a clean after every use type person...
Yeah I got the same gun last month... my first Smith. I went to the range and fired about 50 each of the 38's, +Ps and Magnum loads. I share the same opinion about it shooting true and being very well balanced. I had no discomfort at all after the session. I'm extremely satisified with the...
Yeah I was just curious is all. While the .357 round definitely packed a bigger punch than the 38's/+p's they were all easy to handle and didn't cause any discomfort for me at the range last week.
Thanks for the comment!
Yeah I hear ya. I bought some bulk 38's for the range and went with the +p's for CC/SD. Still got quite a few boxes of .357 in case I change my mind. :)
Thanks for the comment!
I've got a 3" 686 and have seen a few say that they prefer the +P over the .357 load for SD. It would be easier on your hearing too... I know I don't go to bed with my ear muffs on.
Thoughts?

Good to hear. It's funny you mention that because I was a bit confused at first as the "most efficient" way to use the speedloader... and what you mention is what I found in a video.
