    S&W 11 DEGREE FORCING CONE

Hi Tom, The S&W's you mention do not have the 11 degree angle in the forcing cone. The 11 degree forcing cone was developed for PPC revolvers, shooting lead wadcutters. The theory being that the shallower angle introduced less stress to the projectile as it entered the rifling. The...

    Rate of twist

I built mine on a Model 14 frame and a slabbed a bit of Apex 1:14 barrel - it holds an inch or better at 25 yards with the right load. I used a Millet .410 rear sight and a Weigand front sight base with a .200" high sight. If I was doing one today I would use an Aristocrat 4" sight rib and keep...

Light strikes - K Frame *UPDATED*

The occasional bind is possibly the cylinder rubbing against the forcing cone end of the barrel. This problem is a symptom of excessive cylinder endfloat. Check the cylinder for rub marks on the face closest to the barrel. Excessive endfloat is easily fixed with some Ron Power Custom cylinder...

    bulged cylinder question

This relates to mild bulging of the cylinder immediately inside the cylinder stop cuts and no where else. It has been used on PPC revolvers with varying degrees of success. I have experimented with a few methods - the best results came from peening the floor back into the cylinder. This...

What do I use to clean a nickel gun?

My own special mix of Ed's Red.... equal parts of Dexron ATF, kerosene, mineral turpentine and prep-wash ( a solvent used to remove wax from auto-bodies before painting). I add about an ounce of Mobil DTE light (machine oil) per gallon. I swab the whole gun and let it soak for about a half...

    Roller Action

The roller action was an answer to the question that never needed to be asked.... the only thing it ever achieved was a lightened hip pocket. I had one once.... not for long though. A better option was the coil spring conversion for K frame PPC guns. Best one I ever had was on a Frank Glenn...

    Chronograph selection

I have recently bought a CED Millenium and find it to be a good investment. I also have a couple of PACT MkIII's - but the damn things are just too cantankerous when they want to be..... the velocities for all 3 read about the same so I can only conclude that they are somewhere about right !

    Possible cylinder throat issue

The yoke will need to be internally expanded or replaced, I have seen one that had been expanded and it worked just fine, how it was done ... to be truthful - I am unsure.

    Lyman trigger pull gauge

I find that the Lyman is good for rifles and single actions - the middle of the range RCBS is great for DA revolvers.

    Fixing bad trigger job.

Trigger Before you go stoning and polishing.... replace the rebound spring. A very light or too short a (clipped) spring can cause the problem you describe.

Best place to buy new hand for k-frame?

    Brownells

    Barrel Change 19-3

IF you have access to a lathe or a Brownells barrel setback fixture the barrel change should be straight forward.... then you will need a barrel facing tool to adjust the barrel to cylinder gap...and a forcing cone reamer to recut the forcing cone... oh there is a special plug gauge the you will...

Why Does My Dan Wesson Keyhole?

It may have been the ammo'.... heavy loads and soft lead make for tumbling bullets...and that's how you get keyholes.... if it was OK with jacketed bullets then you have the answer.

    Trigger Question

Try replacing the rebound spring.... I have found that short (read clipped ) springs cause the problem.

Endshake bearings or stretching the crane?

I shoot about 30,000 competition rounds through a K Frame PPC guns a year, and have done so for the past 16 years... in all that time I have only ever replaced the cylinder shims - and never stretched the crane. I believe that the shims are a long term adjustment, stretching is a quick and easy...
