    Muzzle Velocity and Recoil

The answer to your question is a simple one: Recoil follows the law of conservation of momentum. Momentum of a body (such as a bullet) = its mass X its velocity. So if the velocity is the same (as your criteria clearly states) and the only thing that varies is the mass of the projectile, the...

    Hammerless 38

Stopping a puma with a 38 Spl.+P out of a 1.875" barrel? I hope you're not serious. With regards to a previous post, the .357 mag. has been a successful hunting round but not out of a snub nose.

    Gun towel

I keep the guns in my safe on gun racks... not wrapped in cloth - and definitely NOT stored in holsters. Do the marks you see wipe clean?

How does one value a "one of a kind" gun?

There is a one of a kind S&W mod. 686-4+ for sale on GB (under the search criteria of "S&W pre-lock"). It has been beautifully re-worked by Gemini. While I'm not particularly interested in buying the gun (read: out of cash :D), I am curious as to how one can know what a custom one of a kind...

    Sideplate removal

+1 on Ed's instructions. Just wanted to add a few comments: 1) When removing the side-plate screws, be sure to use a screw driver with a blade that fits the screw head well, or you run the risk of marring the screw head, and keep the screws separate in the order in which they were removed; and...

    627 with non-fluted cylinder question

 What? Is that true? Only pulling your leg, friend. I know that you can't swap a 6 shot for an 8 shot cylinder. It was the concept I was referring to... and the only before/after photos I have. S&W has to have a gazillion 6-shot, fluted 357 Mag cylinders on hand. Might be cheaper than...

    627 with non-fluted cylinder question

Here's an option for you (although it will cost you approximately $200 (plus shipping). S&W can remove the non-fluted cylinder and replace it with a fluted one. (They all also return the original non-fluted cylinder.) That is what I had them do to my 627PC. Before: After:

    627-0 Shoot or Safe Queen???

Give that thinking man a fine cigar! He nailed it. If you are thinking of investment value, there are much better investments than buying new guns, or paying 2X the original price for a "like new" post-1980 gun. There is a definite fun component to collecting guns - as I am newly discovering...

    Polymer moonclips

The Deluxe Moonclip tool is OK. I have one but no longer use it. It's too slow. The BEST moon clip tool is made by BMT. Check out this video: BMT Mooning Tool.m4v - YouTube BMT's website is: BMT Equipped, Inc. Hope that helps.

Anyone have a PC 627 with these grips??

I hope I am not hijacking this thread, but I would like to know if those Nills grips on the 627 are open or closed back; and why you chose the one over the other? I have a 627, medium sized hands, and an itch to suit up my UDR in a set of fine new cloths.

    Kudos to S&W Service - I think

I had to send back my 327NG because the blast shield fell off. Turn around time was less than 2 weeks. But that's not why I am impressed with the service. Before sending in the gun, I removed the Internal Lock mechanism. After sending in the gun for repair, I ordered a plug. The gun came back...

    Packaging?

Several years ago I bought a $3,000 pistol from Les Bear. It was a 1911 semi-auto in .45 caliber. It came in a plain cardboard box. I was so happy to get the gun, it could have come in a paper bag for all I cared. Is it just me, or do I smell a box fetish? (Only joking...)

    The Plug

Yes. Yes it does. But plugging a hole can be VERY satisfying.:p Enough said.
