    A Rare Bird, 27-1 3 1/2"

This is fascinating; I have a 27-2 3.5 inch with serial number S2294xx! That’s before an earlier listed 27-1. Were the serial numbers not sequential?

What is your Go to War Sidearm?

HK45. Larry Vickers and the HK design team got it right. Over 30,000 rounds without a significant failure in a torture test. If it goes bang literally every time, that’s the sidearm for me. Great accuracy too.

    S&W Bangor Punta era holster

Recently picked this up on eBay for my S&W Model 629-1 4 inch….love it! Really is perfect for the pistol. Takes me back to 1983…

New Python vs. 1985 28-3 Highway Patrolman

That’s an interesting point, the date stamp is 1985, same period corresponding to the manufacturing date. Can’t tell if it’s a coincidence or the original grips. But yes, they’re mighty nice looking!

New Python vs. 1985 28-3 Highway Patrolman

Shooter skill is always my first thought as well, which is why I wanted to compare the two guns. Ammo was standard 158 grain LRN with AA#9, medium powered rounds, can’t recall the grains of powder. Same distance, both six inch rounds, the difference on accuracy was dramatic. The target posted...

New Python vs. 1985 28-3 Highway Patrolman

So…in an attempt to see which can out the other (in my hands only, of course) my recent range trip included my pristine 28-3 and my 2021 Colt Python, both six inch barrels. Some background… This Python is my second, the first made three trips back to Colt and it was finally replaced due to...

Seeking Price Advice On A Used 4" 624 From a Recently Passed Friend

I was also thinking north of $1000. With original grips and box I think $1300 is a cinch. 1980s and prior S&W revolvers have been skyrocketing as of late.

Correct Original Grips for S&W 629-1??

So funny…I just posted my 629-1 same time as you! My 1983 manufacture has original grips with a date stamp consistent with the S&W reference book I own. I expect that a 1986 would likely have the speed loader cut rather than the football cut mine has. Look for the “629-1 accuracy” post….

    Model 629-1 Accuracy 4 inch

Folks, I’ve been shooting for 30 years, but I don’t consider my skills to be anywhere near the top 5-10 percent on this forum. Still…I bought this well-used but not abused 629-1 from 1983 off GB a few months ago. Shockingly, the grips appear original. It was a good enough shooter that I had my...

    629-1 price check..

I just paid 950.00 on GB for a 629-1 four-inch with original grips. Not pristine, honest wear, but solid shape with great lockup. Surprisingly, a four inch barrel can still be a tack driver. It’s my new favorite pistol.

    New to me 629-1

Hi all, my latest GB toy; a not-so-pristine 629-1 that dates to 1983. Grips shockingly match with a 1983 date stamp, clearly a transition period between the football cutout and the speed loader relief cut. It’s got some scratches, mostly surface nicks but a couple deep ones. Lockup seems...

    Brand New 686 Pro Impressions...Meh

I was thinking the same thing, my smith will have a look at it. I’m an amateur, but I went over it with a bright light and magnifiers for about 20 minutes last night, looking at the areas you’d expect to see hairline cracks. I didn’t see any. They were 158 gr lead SWC rounds loaded to .38 spl...

    Brand New 686 Pro Impressions...Meh

I appreciate the brutally honest feedback here, anyone posting and not looking for this should look elsewhere. My revised opinion after the range, not meh....but yeah. Shot right to the point of aim. At 7-10-15 yards, dead center hits. This hun didn’t leave the factory without being zeroed. It...

    Brand New 686 Pro Impressions...Meh

So...I've been the owner of many a Smith revolver; I've only owned two brand new ones, a 686-3 I bought in 1989 (my first ever pistol) and a new 686+ Pro I picked up tonight. First impressions... 1. The triggers on my 686-3 and 28-3 are superior to the new gun, both in double and single action...

The CMP 1911A1 Lottery - some ? and observations

Last year I was fortunate to draw an number about 7300, and I received a Field Grade (I had no choice, would have picked service grade) and I’m glad for what I got. It’s an October 1918 M1911, August Arsenal rebuild with some WW2 features. Matching Colt slide to the frame. It’s definitely a been...
