    Getting my first M&P15

I got my Sport II last year when they were cheap, and I honestly can't ever imagine wanting a different AR-15 in that caliber. Unless I get into shooting heavy grain bullets at long ranges, which is highly unlikely. I ordered mine with steel front post and a collapsible MBUS rear, and put a...

    Scope Recommendations

I got an even cheaper Nikon P-223 3-9x, currently selling for about $110. I think it's pretty decent.

    M&P Sport 2 Accuracy Potential

Why ? Seriously. Any gun is just a mechanical device to project a bullet onto a target. Unless you're saying that nobody is making a living with 5.56mm round. Without getting into specialized rifles for particular applications, the biggest difference between a Sport and a typical mil-spec M4...

    EDC Lesson

Our brains are interpreting the same clues in very different ways. To some people, anyone they don't know is a potential bad guy. I was walking in a grocery store parking lot one night and saw a middle age woman fast going to her car looking very scared, turning her head in all directions, and...

    M&P Sport 2 Accuracy Potential

Being a complete AR noob, I agonized for a while choosing between a Ruger AR556 and S&W Sport II. Ruger was actually cheaper and with the "cool" 1:8 twist rate and I hated the white lettering on S&W (still do). But S&W had practically no complaints about it, and many prized it's accuracy. Ruger...

Hey S&W How about an AR Carbine in 9mm ?

Not to start an argument, but none of these weapons would make sense for their intended users - or be made at all - without full auto. Their whole reason for being was to provide a lot of close to medium range suppressive firepower in a small package. Half of these guns don't even shoot in...

Hey S&W How about an AR Carbine in 9mm ?

Well, if the bottom really falls out on everything, it won't be like the Night of the Living Dead, more likely the National Guard and Army units everywhere, curfew, armored vehicles on intersections, and the total ban on guns. Anyway, to me a likely SHTF situation is something localized -...

A grip adapter or a comfortable replacement grip ?

Can someone recommend a rubber grip adapter or a comfortable replacement grip for Sport II ? I like the angle of the stock grip but find it a bit hard / uncomfortable.

    Ar15 unpleasant recoil?

The recoil on AR feels different for someone used to shooting AKs or hunting rifles. But it's also lighter. Just started shooting my AR. I did feel some discomfort but I think it was purely psychological - an unfamiliar and weird to me "clung-clung" of the buffer.

Just got a brand new MP15 Sport 2 for $499 shipped!

Exactly. I've been shooting AKs and hunitng / sporting rifles and only got Sport II as my first AR this February and I felt like I've been missing on a lot of fun. I really don't see any need to change anything on it at this point. Just added a scope. Actually, I will probably change or modify...

School me on variable power scopes vs red dot sights

I wanted to get a red dot but I also wanted to have fun at the range, and having to squint to see the bullseye is not my idea of fun. So I ended up with a 3-9 P223, at 3x I can quickly acquire sights on a clock across the room, so it's still useful at close distance.

    M&P 15 5.56

I second P223, it's a very quality glass for the money. Also, at 3x it's useful enough for short-range shooting. I can quickly put my sights on a clock across the room.

Great Price On The Sport II

Thanks ! Very interesting. At what distance would the stabilizing effect of a tighter twist rate on heavier bullets become noticeable ? I.e. if I limit myself to 300 yards, would I really see much difference between a 55 gr and a 77gr ?
