Correct, the Tacticool nut is replacing the original barrel nut and acting as an adapter (along with the DD barrel nut as a spacer) to both hold the barrel in the receiver and allow mounting of the DD RIS II. It is an extremely solid mount once you tighten the Tacticool barrel nut down.

Easiest way I've found is cut a 4 inch section of bicycle innertube and slip over your barrel, then place your clamps on. Keeps the barrel from spinning or getting marked up.

Has anyone tried to install a Daniel Defense RIS II (real steel or airsoft) on their 15-22? Would like to make a SOPMOD Blk II clone out of mine but wanted to know if anyone has had any luck with this before I try. More interested in the DD licensed airsoft version than the real steel version...

Here's a close up shot of the Magpul wedge. It works fine, you just need to use a dremel tool to grind away a bit of the wedge to make it fit.
