Well, it was bound to happen. After buying dozens of firearms on the internet an unscrupulous seller and I finally connected.
Bought a 41, SN 119XXX with a cocking indicator slide which does not appear original to the gun. Gun was cocked when received and slide will not retract. Safety does not...
Just picked up the above....this one has the non-target hammer and trigger and the small grips....IIRC correctly, the 27s of this vintage came with 3Ts or like this one?
Gun appears unfired....
My favorite models, which I already own, are 17 (6"), 18, 27 (3 1/2"), 29 (6 1/2"), 35 and 57 (4" unfired). All minty and original...My favorite 17 dates 1952; the 18 has diamond grips...
The one I do not have and covet is the Outdoorsman. I have located a boxed specimen in unbelievable shape...
That BB +P+ ammo is not needed with a hard cast bullet, IMO, and will not do any .44 Smith any good, IMO....
I load a 300 gr. LBT Cast Performance over VV-110 to 1250 fps in my Mountain Gun....never (and will not) shot it in my 329....the load is wickedly accurate and all I'll ever need against...
I bought my 329, shortly after they were released, from the first owner who shot it exactly five times....I got it for a song....
Lots of good facts cited on this thread....I rarely shoot full power loads....while my FA .475 hammers me harder, the 329 is less enjoyable to shoot with heavy loads...
Back in the day when rattlesnakes could be freely taken in Pennsylvania I used my shotshell-loaded Kit Gun on several and went to a 36 after quickly learning a .22 shotshell at hand shaking range wasn't the right stuff for something that bites back....
Even rattlers deserve a quick demise.....
Just a newbie posting here....I have a still NIB 6" 16-4 that I always intended to shoot but never got around to doing....
I'll do my "part" to keep it unaltered....I know everyone is entitled to do as he/she wishes but I'm curious as to why rechambering a scarce gun seems so popular....unless...
Gee, I'm overwhelmed by the warm welcomes....I sense this place is a much different venue than many of the others where attacking others seems to be the order of the day....
I likely won't contribute much as the collective knowledge I've witnessed here is vast, to say the least. Having said...
Thanks for the welcome!
Yep, the fingergroove type....the Altamonts look identical to the factory ones....and I believe only Altamont has the rights to put the medallions on their wood grips?
Bought an early 696 awhile ago with Hogue grips. Wanted the factory wooden grips and watched the Internet for awhile where ones were selling for over $100.
Called S&W and CS told me to contact Altamont which I did...think I paid around $60 for a set with medallions on them.
Did Altamont supply...
Hi All: Just signed up to join like-minded folks and learn more about my favorite handguns. Have a modest assortment of mostly modern-day S&W revolvers that, fortunately, I began assembling before prices jumped....
Looking forward to a great learning experience here!
