What's a NIB with leather sheath S&W hollow handle "survival" knife going for these days? Knife #'s match the boxes. Two knives have consecutive #'s. I bought 4 of them back in early 80's and I have another one without the box. Sorry to borrow somebody's pic, my knives are like the second from bottom knife:

Those knives were originally the Blackhawk imported for Bianchi in the 70's and 80's. After Bianchi stopped buying them S&W started selling them, made by the exact same company in I believe Germany but its been awhile. My family owned a store that was a full line Bianchi dealer and we bought several of the very first knives. I sold serial numbers 47-51 on Ebay about 5 years ago. They are pretty cool and well made knives.I have also seen at least one other company that imported them through the years with their name on them in an all black model.

None of those knives are imports. The fixed blades were made at the S&W plant in Springfield. The folder was made under contract by Alcas in Olean, NY as S&W did not have the capabilities to make a folder at that time. They were all designed by Blackie Collins specifically for S&W.

Ed is correct on the pricing although they are in a bit of a slump presently.

Iam pretty sure that at least the blades of these knives are made in Solingen Germany, notice they dont say made in USA anywhere on the knife itself? Does any of the paperwork say made in USA? Iam talking about the two hollow handle knives in the middle, I dont know anything about the rest.

Nor do they say Solingen or Germany anywhere.

As bk43 said, all but the Folding Hunter Model 6060 were made by S&W in Springfield, MA factory.

I posted scans of the knife brochure here http://smith-wessonforum.com/smith-wesson-knives-collectables/106690-s-w-knife-brochure.html

I just dont believe it without proof, they were made at the same time and are almost exactly finished as these other knives I mentioned right down to the high polished blades. Iam a custom knifemaker now and have been seeing/buying and handling these same knives since they were orignally sold and when you feel them in hand they are the same.Hell they even sell in the same price range today to collectors. Even the butt cap and brass threaded insert are the same. The grinds are slightly different and the actual handle material is different, but the blade profile, fit and finish is the same.It would be nice to have proof one way or the other....Again Iam only talking about the hollow handle knives. I think if S&W had made them they would say made in USA somewhere on them for sure.

Are they the same.....?

Interesting thread. I have both, the Smith & Wesson 6030 and the Bianchi Nighthawk as well.

After reading the thread, I got both out and specifically compared the threaded, knurled end cap. They are not the same....!
The outside diameter is the same, however, the threaded shaft is 9/16th's on the S&W and 11/16th's on the Bianchi.
Not interchangable.

And while we are at it...the Randall Model 18 end caps are not interchangeable with either of them. Randall Model 18's are fine threads where the S&W and Bianchi are course.

The knives are very close in design and certainly attracted my attention enough to own both.

Hope this helps!

OUTDOORSMAN......

Why are they so difficult to find compared to the 6030?
I'd like to have a new in the box example....
