Hows The Mexican Restuarants Where you Live?

I ate in a Mexican restaurant in Nizhny Novgorod, Russia. I looked like a Mexican restaurant, they were playing Mexican music, but I'll be damned if I know what kind of food it was. One thing I do know, it weren't Mexican food.
Reminds me of the "Mexican" dinner they once served at the 2nd Infantry Division HQ officer's club at Camp Casey, ROK. It included spaghetti.

Well, I guess Mexicans probably don't make very good bulgogi or yaki mandu either...

I love the mexican food in southern Arizona and also look forward to New Mexico's style with their wonderful chile (Hatch). The times I have tried it in Texas....not so much. One of my favorites is found along the coasts of Mexico - Simple fried fresh fish w/ajo and rice.

I have eaten in a Mexican resturant, in Holland, ran by a guy from Israel!
The food was what you would imagine.

Here in New Mexico we also have MANY choices for Mexican or New Mexican food. My favorite is El Modelo (take out only) great prices and they've been in business since 1930 something.

Well, I'm not at the northeastern end of things, I'm in San Diego, at the extreme southwest end of things.

Mexican food here, as you can imagine, is incridible.

There are restaurants on most every corner and most times they are the best ones to enjoy, it seems the greasier, the better they taste.

Mexican food is in my diet at least four times a week and I'm a full-on gringo.

Socal, where in San Diego do you live? I lived there for 51 years. Tio Leo's (all three locations), is still one of my favorites and it is hard to beat the Old Town Mexican Cafe. Some of the best stuff comes from the local hole in the walls. Ironically here in Tucson we have more bad ones than good, they seem to think Mexican means greasy ground beef in everything - no clue. I do a mean Mexican dinner at home every week at least once. (o;

A number of years ago there was a Mexican chain restaurant in several SW cities called I think Ponchos or Pedros. I was in one in Dallas around 1970 and they had a deal, all you can eat for $3.95.
You selected your first food order from a cafeteria line, sat down and had your food. If you wanted more you raised a little Mexican flag on the table and a you had a waitress come over and got you more food for your same $3.95.

I can't remember what the food was like, but the beer was cold and cost extra.

Are these still around?

We do have several Mexican restaurants in our area, Las Margaritas is the best, El Tapatio's not bad, and another El Torero is posted so I've never been there.

5" of snow over night, I hate snow. Looks like I'll be cooking a pot of soup today.:D

Bob

It's Pancho's Mexican Buffet.
They are still around. I take my boys to the one in Humble from time to time.

Hey Capt. Steve!

Surely that doesn't include Gordo's Mexicateria!

I mean . . . do you REALLY love chimichangas?

Bland Mexican | Chow Feature | Tucson Weekly

It's been 30 years since I lived in Tucson and I can't believe that place still exists!!! LOL!!! I can still hear their radio commercials!!!

I live in northeast Oklahoma and probably have ten Mexican within two miles of my house.

I go to one that is a mom and pop joint, the wait staff never changes, the decor is palin, the food is fine and the price is right.

We try to go about once a week. We have our own seats, pickup the menus at the door and seat ourselves. Always order off the "lunch menu" and have never been dissapointed.

I always like the mom and pop joints better than the chains.

I've been going to a Vietnamese restaurant in Tulsa for over twenty years now. It is a mom and pop. I've watched the guy's children grow up, get married and have kids. The faces never change, the menu never changes but it is always good.

El Paso claims to be the Mexican food capital of the world, and I believe it. Lots of Mexican restaurants from little holes in the wall (Linda's jet, for example) to really high end places. Most are excellent. If I get too far from home I get withdrawal symptoms in a few days.

Was confined to Houston for a few months some years back: their Mexican food stinks. I heard there were a few good places, but never found them. For sopapillas they served a donut; for chile rellenos, a common green pepper filled with some sort of hamburger mixture.

I lived in El Paso for 6 years and learned to love the food in El Paso/Juarez. But, it is different from anywhere else I've been. Houston is different from San Antonio or Laredo too.

If you want really different Mexican food try Mexico City - it is nothing like you will find anywhere in the USA.

I'm working in the Northwest right now, but Denver is still home.
#1. Mrs. Rio's Kitchen, Alamosa Colorado. Good food. Hot. Lots of it.
#2. Senor Sol (the one out near Golden; the new one was a disappointment). The green chili bowl there would raise the dead. I know, I used to be dead, and it raised me. Ai!

We eat at La Posta in La Mesilla, NM almost every year since the 1996 S&WCA show in Albuquerque. We eat at Alebrije Mexican restaurant in Reading, PA. The same people have one in Emmaus and one in the Allentown area, those two are named Fiesta Ole Mexican restaurant.
Barb C. you must come here for some real good Mexican resturants.

There is one near me thats not bad. But they do look at me strange when I ask for an order of french fries.

Good Ones Nearly Non-Existant

We moved from Dallas where there were lots of really good Mezzikan places to Tampa... where there are no good ones at all, and only one mediocre one.... :(

The Jalapeanos here are about as hot as a dill pickle slice....

Sure do miss Dallas....

now, my FIL lives close to McMinnville TN. we were back there on Cinco De Mayo, so we went to the 1 mexican restarount he knew of. all white people working there. no so much. same with the chinese buffet. one asian dude and the rest white folks ordering him around. now the BBQ places back there are to die for !

White folks working in restaurants?

How's the Mexican Restaurants where I live? Uh, there's hardly an option for anything else, but they range from terrible to pretty darned good. Be careful with salads and uncooked seafood, that's for sure.

Currently live in the greater Seattle area and the mexican restaurants are ok. When we lived in California while in the military, we found several mom and pop taco stands that were excellent.

But in my experience, the closer you get to the US - Mexico border, the better the food gets. At least that's what I found when visiting Texas and Arizona.

ZERO, NADA

Although the Dining Facility (Mess Hall) does try and serve it at least once a week. Haven't seen any outside the wire either here in Afghanistan.

I've traveled around a lot of the country and have found some good ones over the years.

At home, well, Mexican food in New Hampshire can be tough. The best IMHO is La Carreta, which has restaurants in Manchester, Nashua and Derry. I've eaten in Nashua and Manchester and they are pretty good. They will make it hotter than the normal New England palate will tend to tolerate if you ask them. About as good as it gets here.

We've got a lot down here in Phoenix that runs the spectrum from really good authentic hole in the wall to really bland tourist food. The best places are in the worse parts of town where you don't go if you can't see you car from the table.

The best part was when Obama was in town and went out to Macayo's. It kind of summed him up, all image and no substance. Big restaurant with a loyal following and it really does have pretty bland food.

My own personal theory, the further away from the source, the worse the food is. This is why I don't eat mexican food on the east coast and I don't go out for seafood in Denver.
