Song Lyrics

Singing in the sunshine, laughing in the rain
Hitting on the moonshine, rocking in the grain
Got no time to pack my bag, my foots outside the door
Got a date, I can’t be late, for the high hopes hailla ball.

I can plow a field all day long
I can catch catfish from dusk till dawn
We make our own whiskey and our own smoke too
Ain’t too many things these ole boys can’t do
We grow good ole tomatoes and homemade wine
And a country boy can survive
Country folks can survive

Close the door, put out the light.
You know they won’t be home tonight.
The snow falls hard and don’t you know?
The winds of Thor are blowing cold.
They’re wearing steel that’s bright and true
They carry news that must get through.
They choose the path where no-one goes.
They hold no quarter.

He said, "Drifter can ya make folks cry when you play and sing?
Have you paid your dues, can you moan the blues?
Can you bend them, guitar strings?"
He said, "Boy can you make folks feel what you feel inside?
'Cause if you're big star bound let me warn ya, it's a long, hard ride"
---------------------------
Yeah I brought it on myself and I guess that I shouldn't complain
Be damned if I'll ever do anymore of that cocaine
---------------------------
Out on the road today I saw a Deadhead sticker on a Cadillac.
---------------------------
I may be going to hell in a bucket, babe
But at least I'm enjoying the ride

Money can’t buy back your youth when you’re old
Or a friend when you’re lonely, or a love that’s grown cold...

(But it does make it possible to suffer in comfort...;))

When a fellow has the blues and feels discouraged
And there's nothing left but troubles in his life
When he's always grumbled at and never happy
Living with a scolding aggravating wife

If he's sick and tired of life and takes to drinking
Do not pass him by don't greet him with a frown
Do not fail to lend a hand and try to help him
Always lift him up and never knock him down

Show me...the way...to the next whiskey bar.
Oh, don't ask why...Oh, don't ask why.

I woke up this morning and I got myself a beer.
The future's uncertain and the end is always near.

I don't know but I've been told

-------------------------------
Ya take what ya need and ya leave the rest

-------------------------------
I was dancin' with my darlin' to the Tennessee Waltz

-------------------------------
He just grinned and shook my hand, "no" was all he said

-------------------------------
And the beat goes on

Does art mirror life or life mirror art?

In the words of a song....

My pretty little black-eyed Susie's now Mrs. Susan Van Der Hoosie

Rosie who could blow my mind is sister Rose on channel nine
The wildest lover of my life is now a federal judges wife

They don't want to recognize this old familiar face
I'm just a bad reminder of their wild and woolly days

:D:D:D:eek::eek::eek:

Su Amigo,
Dave

She walks into Smokey's
one hip at a time
Like a broken field runner
slippin' through the lines

- Joe Diffie

They say I shot a man named Gray
and took his wife to Italy
She inherited a million bucks
and when she died it came to me
I can’t help it if I’m... lucky

- Bob Dylan

"we fired our cannon til the barrel melted down"

"Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just
And this be our motto, In God is our trust"

"We are a band of brothers and native to the soil
Fighting for our Liberty, With treasure, blood and toil'

He always runs while others walk
He acts while other men just talk
He looks at this world and wants it all
so he strikes...like Thunderball.

She met another and Pphhhttt! She was gone.

No more speed, I'm almost there

Oh say can you see by the dawn's early light
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming?
(Yeah - OK, that's 2 lines, but they go together so well.)

Silver devils in his holsters
stars strapped to his heels
There was fire in his eyes
they say that he was dressed to kill
He had hands as fast as lightning
a heart as cold as steel
He had come for the one that took her life
to lie him in Boot Hill

“I was born and raised an orphan, in a land that once was free. In a land that poured it's love out on the moon.”

“She was a level-headed dancer on the road to alcohol
And I was just a soldier on my way to Montreal”

This has been an enjoyable thread, to see how many of these songs I recognize the lyrics to. Many thanks to the OP for thinking of this.

Years ago, I was a man given to riotous living. I have always loved all types of music, but country and western has always had a special place in my life. Neither my first wife, God rest her soul, or my wife now ever could stand country music. They both said it was too sad. For me, real country western music has always been about life. There is an old joke what do you get when you play a country western record backwards? You get your wife back, your job back and your dog back. :D These are just some lyrics from some of the songs that I recall from "the old days". Most of them were played closer to closing time, if memory serves me. Anyone here remember these?

"He was born in Oklahoma.
His wife's name is Betty Lou Thelma Liz.
He's not responsible for what he's doin'
Cause his mother made him what he is."

"Well I was drunk the day my momma got out of prison.
And I went to pick her up in the rain.
But before I could make to the station in my pick up truck,
She got run'd over by a damed old train."

There only two things in life that make it worth livin'
guitars that tune good and firm feelin' women
I don't need my name in the marquis lights
I got my song and I got you with me tonight
Maybe it's time we got back to the basics of love"

#1...Up Against the Wall...ray wylie hubbard
#2...You Don't Haveta Call Me Darlin'...David Allen Cole
#3...Luckenbach, Texas...Waylon, Willie and the boys

And every single night, when me da(d) would come home tight,
He'd invite the neighbors out with this chorus:
Oh, come out you Black and Tans,
Come out and fight me like a man;
Show your wife how you won medals down in Flanders;
Tell her how the I.R.A. made you run like h*ll away
From the green and lovely lanes of Killeshandra.
