Song Lyrics

Some will sell their dreams for small desires
Or lose the race to rats
Get caught in ticking traps
And start to dream of somewhere
To relax their restless flight
Somewhere out of a memory of lighted streets on quiet nights...

Imagine a man where it all began
A scientist pacing the floor
In each nation, always eager to explore
To build the best big stick
To turn the winning trick
But this was something more...

The big bang took and shook the world
Shot down the rising sun
The end was begun and it hit everyone
When the chain reaction was done
The big shots tried to hold it back
Fools tried to wish it away
The hopeful depend on a world without end
Whatever the hopeless may say

"They tried to get me lots of times
Now they're comin' after you
I got out and I'm here to say
Baby you can get out too...
I'm still alive and well
Still alive and well
Every now and then
I know it's kind of hard to tell
But I"m still alive and well..."

how about "this ol highway she's hotter than nine kinds of hale, and rides are as scarce as the rain. When you're down to your last shuck with nothing to sell and too far away from the trains."

Johnny Rodriguez, about 1974, "Riding my Thumb to Mexico"
I wore out a few of his 8-tracks.

Well she saved enough to get back home
When spring replaced the winter
But her dreams were denied, her Pa had died
Well, the word came down from Spencer

So, she turned to whorin' out on the streets
With all the lust inside her
And it was many a man returned again
To lay himself beside her.

Hint: this guy wrote a very successful Merle and Wilie song

"So I ditched my old truck just to see where the party would end."

"...how the hell was Leonard s'posed to know?"

"If I could move I'd get my gun and put her in the ground."

The first one, I don't recall.

Yeah Johnny R covered it but Billy Joe Shaver wrote it and Waylon owns it on his Honky Tonk Heroes album full of Shaver songs!

Glad to see someone appreciates Townes Van Zandt

TVZ is the master, among others of course.
I have to be careful how long and when I listen to a lot of it, however, it's like 101 proof whiskey to me, but dang, I enjoy it.

"...he said, "Dan, you're lookin at a lonely, lonely man.""

He's got a 16 gauge, choked down like a rifle and he don't like a man who will try to trifle

He said "No brush hunter's going to get my daughter."
He cocked back the hammer right on the spot
When the gun went off, I outran the shot!
Shotgun Boogie

I've only heard that on 78rpm.
I bet there's people here who don't know what that is.

"I came in at two with a ten,
At ten I woke up with a two.
I never went to bed with an ugly woman,
but I sure woke up with a few."

...You see, the devil haunts a hungry man,
If you don't wanna join him, you got to beat him.
I ain't sayin' I beat the devil, but I drank his beer for nothing.
Then I stole his eff'ing song.

And you still can hear me singin' to the people who don't listen,
To the things that I am sayin', prayin' someone's gonna hear.
And I guess I'll die explaining how the things that they complain about,
Are things they could be changin', hopin' someone's gonna care....

Watch out where the huskies go,

An' he said: "I'm outa-site!"
He said, for a nominal service charge,
