Do you bump fire?

I've seen a lot of vids of guys bump-firing or using slide fire stocks to turn their semi firearms into "automatics." Although legal, according to ATF, to me it seems like a waste of precious ammo to shoot from the hip (literally in most cases) for no other reason than to show off. It may look cool but I can't see spending $380 for a slide-fire upper for an AR or AK so you can burn up a bunch of bullets and accomplish nothing in the way of improving accuracy.

Anyone agree or do you see a practical purpose to bump/slide firing?

It is a waste of ammo but I haven't fired a firearm this fast since the 70's. It's a novelty that puts a smile on your face. I use the slidefire and you can aim almost as good as with a full auto from the shoulder. I wouldn't recommend fast firing all the time and definitely wouldn't do the thump in the belt loop and fire from the hip. No control there and doesn't look like fun to me as you can't aim. I guess whoever has them likes them because you don't see them used for sale often. OBTW it doesn't turn your firearm into full automatics, that's illegal without a tax stamp it's still one round per trigger pull. You can say target shooting is a waste of ammo also but it's fun. It's all how you look at it and to each their own.

That's why I put "automatics" in quotes. Still, done expertly, it's possible to empty a high-cap mag in a matter of seconds so it looks like full auto..

Bump firing is idiotic. It is the "firearms equivalent" of "peeling out". It looks cool to the people watching, it is hard on your equipment, it gives you less control than if you were using your equipment the right way, and 75% of the time the cops are gonna show up.

If I had the land and money, I'd just buy a fully automatic rifle and shoot it on my property. With bump firing and bump fire stocks themselves, I don't really care if people shoot them on their property. If they do it at the range (assuming the range even permits it), I'd like a heads up. I'm more concerned with "amateur firearm enthusiasts" who a) lack firearm safety, b) don't have full control of their firearms, and c) are immature. The last thing I want to be around is some Xbox commando with a beta drum attached to an AR with a bump stock as they spray and pray. If you're a responsible gun owner then by all means enjoy.

I did only once...

Think I was about 13 or 14...it was about 10 degrees and was loading an old 16ga 1897 with buckshot- I had on some mighty heavy gloves.

Loaded the mag full, pumped it and threw one in the chamber.
Then, I turned the gun over and rested the butt against my crotch and proceeded to put another shell in the magazine when..."blam...."

:o

I don't know how long I was uncomposed on the cold ground...

Look into something called a Lightning Link. You used to be able to buy the plans at gun shows. Two machined pieces of metal that fit together into an L-shape and drop into an unmodified AR receiver.

One other thing...

It's more exiting to load a pump shotgun like a 1897 Winchester, Marlin 1898, Winchester 1887, Spencer/Bannerman pump or for that matter, an original Auto-5 or Remington 11 with a full mag of blackpowder shells and light them off.

Might need a glove though after five or six rounds just to handle the barrel. :D

More smoke, more pleasure!

I say, handeling a gun in that way is just nuts

I was impressed by full auto fire for about the first 5 minutes of US Weapons in Basic after that I just didn’t see the appeal. I’m definitely not going to waste ammunition faking it

Never have and the ranges I belong to do not allow it, and even ban the stocks so you can't do that absurd practice. Good for them. Then again, they don't allow full auto either.

1. The older pumps don't have a disconnect; all you need to do his hold the trigger back and pump. Accuracy with slugs sucks.
2. I first learned the expression "Spray-n-pray" from my range instructor (ex Ranger) while in boot camp.
3. Did the spray-n-pray once when I was a guide on wild hogs. A client wounded one in thick brush (chamise). Took my 97 with slugs (see #1 above). She came for me, I emptied the 12 ga. When the dust had settled, I had hit her with the first shot and plowed furrows with the other 4. Technically, one shot, one kill, I guess.

I did one time

I can't remember what gun it was but the first time I fired it I kept my trigger finger too stiff and was disconcerted to fire two (maybe 3) more rounds before I knew what was happening.
